Please note: In response to recent legislative updates, this certification is undergoing a refresh effective 30 April 2021.
Examinations conducted through training providers will adopt the new syllabus starting 31 July 2021. Tests administered via Pearson VUE will utilise the updated syllabus from 1 September 2021.
Any legislative amendments occurring between 1 May and 31 October 2021 will be incorporated into the revised syllabus, which is scheduled for release in January 2022.

- The role of the Independent Supervisory Authority (ICO)
- Data breaches, enforcement mechanisms, and liability
- Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations (PECR) 2003

The fee covers the full course syllabus delivered by an approved BCS trainer and the BCS Foundation Data Protection exam. This assessment can be taken remotely at your convenience and is centrally invigilated by BCS. Participants who pass the multiple-choice exam with a score of at least 65% will earn the accredited BCS Foundation Certificate in Data Protection.
Requirements
While not mandatory, prior familiarity with data protection laws, along with a foundational understanding of IT and GDPR, will provide a distinct advantage to learners.

1. The BCS test exam questions were often incoherent or not related to the syllabus - which appears to be a trait of BCS course and exams 2. the subject matter was taught reading powerpoint slides full of text - the BCS should be providing at least some diagrammatic content and other visual aids especially as many people learn in very different ways - more than just reading text.
