the question ‘How do we show respect to one ideas or actions. They answer ‘how’ and ‘why’
another?’ questions about their experiences and in

                                                   Children express themselves effectively, showing
awareness of listeners’ needs. They use past,

The majority of the activity will be child led, with the use of This is predominantly a discussion activity, so no resources are

Timing: Activity:
What will the adult be doing? (including modelling):
3 mins ‘Today we are talking and learning about respect’. Give the children a chance to talk about what respect might mean. After this,
ask them what they think it means. After their definition, provide your own.
3 mins Talk with the children about whether they think respect is important, and how they feel the world would look without any respect
in it. ‘How do you think you would feel if nobody respected anybody? Would the world be a nice place to live? Why?’
5 mins Ask the children how they can show respect and kindness in the classroom. Introduce the word kindness and ask what they
think it means. Then proceed to discuss how we can show this in the classroom. Chip in with your own examples e.g. if a child
is reading a book, we do not snatch it off them etc.
2 mins How would you feel if you weren’t respected?
2 mins Ask the children what they should do if they see somebody not showing respect.
Assessment: (Reflections on children’s learning)
Children should have an understanding of what respect and kindness means and how they can respect themselves and others.
