Abstract

Esophageal foreign body is a sharp or blunted object or food that stucked in esophagus
because of being swallowed, accidentally or not. This accident is an emergency case. This study
aimed to describe the incidence of esophageal foreign body at the general hospital of DR. M.
Haulussy Ambon in 2011-2016. This research was descriptive cross sectional categorical method
using secondary data from medical records of esophageal foreign body patients. The samples were
all esophageal foreign body patients that comes into the inpatient ENT-TOS room and ENT-TOS clinic
recorded in medical records at the general hospital of DR. M. Haulussy Ambon in 2011-2016 using
total sampling techniques with restriction criteria. Data were analyzed by univariate analysis. The
result showed esophageal foreign body patients totalling 32 patients. In terms of age, most pastients
are pediatric patients (5-11 years) of 34.4%. By sex, male was 53.1% (n=17) it was greater than
female 46.9% (n=15). By level of education, which most often were patients who attending school or
not with 50%. Based on the types of foreign body, the most commonly found was dentures with
40.6%.
