Field Resident I

Edward Urrabas

School: Texas A&M University of San Antonio

Major: Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies

Projected Graduation: Fall 2020

Born: San Antonio, Texas

Spouse: Janet Urrrbas

Children: Mason Edward Urrabas and Emmalee Rose Urrabas

Reason why I decide to pursue a degree in education:

Prior to coming back to school, I had an image on what success meant to a person. I always
believed that success was measured by the amount of wealth someone could accumulate or the social
status someone could achieve. Then, I realized that true success was more than just what someone
could acquire but instead what they could give back. This epiphany led me to rethink about my
profession and re-prioritize my definition of success. Consequently, this led me to change my profession
and pursue a degree in education. Furthermore, this new career choice will allow me to pursue two of
my true passions which are, learning and teaching.

I know this profession is full of challenges and responsibilities that might dissuade many people
from taking this career path. I also know this profession can provide a great opportunity to give back to
the community by inspiring and nurturing young children’s minds. What other profession provides a
platform where you can positively influence children and teach a subject you love. Therefore, I truly
believe; this profession can be one of the toughest jobs that I can learn to love.

Additionally, I know I can utilize my previous experiences in the workforce and military life to
help build notable relationships with my fellow students and coworkers. The many attributes I have
gained throughout the years such as interpersonal and leadership skills can make a big difference on the
success of a classroom. The military principles of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity
and personal courage continue to influence what I stand for. These qualities can help inspire, motivate,
and instill confidence in a child’s life to reach their full academic potential.

Overall, I know I can make a difference in a profession that is full of opportunities to positively
influence young children’s minds. The call to this profession has given me purpose and meaning on how
I can give back to my community. The experience I have gained from my past employers will allow me to
thrive in an ever-changing classroom environment. The attraction to this profession is that it can be
meaningful, challenging and rewarding every single day.
