 Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
    • Clear and specific goals
    • Visually disable learners can zoom in if necessary
    • Hearing disabled can turn up the volume if needed
    • Ells can watch it as often as needed for language and content comprehension
    • Learning disabled students can watch it as often as needed for content comprehension
    • This technology can be viewed at home alone or with caregivers to make this a full learning
        experience
    • The activity meets the demand of the standard for all leaners
    • This technology offers multiple means of representation giving learners various ways of acquiring the
        information and knowledge
 Lesson idea implementation:
This video was created to be used as a flipped classroom introduction to the standard. The students are only
being asked to watch the video over the weekend in an effort to find an interesting fact to share on Monday
about the life of Dr. King. The video will be introduced via a message on the teacher’s classroom blog and
should only take 10 minutes to complete in its entirety. There will be no assessment for this activity as it is
only an introduction to the standard.
To extend this activity the students are being asked to take the time during the video to find one fact, word or
message that stands out to them, so they can share it in class. Once the students return to school after
viewing the video, we will use the facts or message they retained to create a word wall about Dr. King. After
completion of the word wall we will employ the same strategy for other historical figures to be covered in the
 standard.

                                             Multimedia Tools
Importance of technology: Using multimedia authoring tool is important to the activity because it allows the
teacher the ability to reach out to the students when they are not in class. Reaching out to the students in this
way manner gives them an introduction to the lesson and builds background for the lesson before they come
to class. It gives them an opportunity to share the lesson topic with caregivers, so they can ask questions to
expand their knowledge base for class.
Inspiration (optional): To design the video I borrowed a video from Discovery Education
(https://app.discoveryeducation.com). I used a portion of the video and inserted pictures retrieved from a
Google search at the beginning and end of the video to complete the project.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Because this technology is new and forever evolving in the education
field, the rules that govern how they can be used are constantly evolving as well. Districts are constantly
updating the rules of use concerning what can and what cannot be posted on blogs, thus creating a constant
need to be aware of their appropriate use. To be sure to ensure that I am minimizing the risks to the
students I will be certain to consult with my mentors, administration and technology experts to be certain I
am conforming with all FERPA and CIPA guidelines concerning my actions.
Reflective Practice: I hope this activity stimulates conversation in the homes of the students and they are able
to come to class with more than one important fact about Dr. King. To further extend this lesson the students
could create their own word walls to bring in and share with the class. From those walls we could use the
student’s contributions to create a master word wall. If the students were older and they all had their own
phones the teacher could create a GroupMe to send out messages to all the students. The students could
reply with their contributions or create a Google Docs to be used as a presentation in class.
