Section Four
Introduction
The field of education has many standards that teachers are required to abide by. These
standards go beyond curriculum and work towards nurturing the overall well-being of the
students in our classrooms. These standards are put in place to ensure educators are held
accountable for their actions, and to ensure that educators are proving students with an education
that meets the rigorous curriculum requirements. As a teacher candidate, these standards provide
opportunities to succeed. I believe these standards shape better teachers and are a necessary part
INTASC Standards.
The INTASC Standards include a progression of standards, beginning with the learner
and learning, that all teachers are required to follow. These standards progress as follows: The
learner and learning, content, instructional practice, and professional responsibility. By abiding
by these standards, the teacher ensures that they are meeting the individual needs of the students
in their class. By not only holding students accountable to learning, and being dedicated to self-
learning as a teacher, we are creating an environment that encourages learning at all levels,
ultimately improving the field of education. The following artifacts listed connect to the

Artifact #7: School Violence Prevention and Intervention / Identification and Reporting
The Statement of Purpose as outlined by the NYS Code of Ethics for Educators is as
follows:
“The Code of Ethics is a public statement by educators that sets clear expectations and
principles to guide practice and inspire professional excellence. Educators believe a commonly
held set of principles can assist in the individual exercise of professional judgment. This Code
speaks to the core values of the profession. "Educator" as used throughout means all educators
serving New York schools in positions requiring a certificate, including classroom teachers,
With this, educators are held accountable to ethical practice, ensuring students are treated with

Similar to the NYS Code of Ethics for Educators, Ontario has a similar philosophy of
abiding by ethical standards when teaching. The Ontario Ethical Standards and their descriptions
are as follows:
CARE: The ethical standard of Care includes compassion, acceptance, interest and
insight for developing students' potential. Members express their commitment to students'
well-being and learning through positive influence, professional judgment and empathy
in practice.
RESPECT: Intrinsic to the ethical standard of Respect are trust and fair-mindedness.
Members honour human dignity, emotional wellness and cognitive development. In their
professional practice, they model respect for spiritual and cultural values, social justice,
TRUST: The ethical standard of Trust embodies fairness, openness and honesty.
Members' professional relationships with students, colleagues, parents, guardians and the

Artifact #7: School Violence Prevention and Intervention / Identification and Reporting
P-12 NYS Common Core Learning Standards (ELA, Math and Social Studies).
The P-12 NYS Common Core Learning Standards (ELA, Math and Social Studies) are
the standardized curriculum requirements that students are required to meet at each grade level.
The standards are detailed and specific, requiring students to meet rigorous goals to advance
their education. With this, all teachers across New York State are required to teach lessons that
meet these standards, ensuring students are being given access to all learning goals. The
following artifacts are connected to the NYS Common Core Learning Standards:
Similar to the NYS Common Core Learning Standards, the Ontario Ministry of
Education has curriculum standard requirements to be met at every grade level. The standards
are detailed and specific, requiring students to meet rigorous goals to advance their education.
With this, all teachers across Ontario are required to teach lessons that meet these standards,
ensuring students are being given access to all learning goals. The following artifacts are
The CAEP Standards ensure that teacher candidates have a deep and thorough
understanding of their responsibilities to the profession. With this, teacher candidates work

Artifact #7: School Violence Prevention and Intervention / Identification and Reporting
       International Society for Technology Education for Teachers and Students (ISTE).
       The ISTE Standards provides guidelines for educators to follow that support them in
navigating the evolution of technology in the classroom. These standards require educators to
utilize technology in the classroom in a way that enhances student learning, using it as a way to
improve the lessons make learning more interactive. The artifacts listed connect to the ISTE

The ILA Professional Standards focus on the knowledge, skills, and dispositions
necessary for effective educational practice in a specific role and highlight contemporary
research and evidence-based practices in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and leadership. The
The Council for Exceptional Children provide 12 different professional ethical principles,
practice standards, and professional policies that respect the diverse characteristics and needs of
individuals with exceptionalities and their families. Teachers are expected to abide by these
standards, ensuring students with exceptionalities in the classroom are treated with respect,

Conclusion
This section outlined all of the standards that teachers are required to abide by in the field
of education. The artifacts I have chosen to share in this portfolio project all, in some way,
connect to the standards above. I have taken the time to describe each standard and align them to
my included artifacts to provide you with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of these
