Aim: SWBAT articulate what is showing Grit.  


SWBAT tell how they can show grit in their daily lives.  

Frame : KIPPsters today we will be learning about our value of showing Grit. Grit 
means never giving up even when things seem di cult. When we show Grit we are 
showing persistence, this means that we try and try again. We want to make sure 
that we always complete our tasks. 
 
Let’s reflect for a minute. Have you ever had a problem, maybe in your class work 
or at home, that you thought was just too hard to solve? What did you do? Did you 
solve the problem in the end?  
● Have students think, pair, share their answers.  
● Take a couple of hands.  
 
If you solved the very challenging problem, you probably showed a lot of grit! 
In these situations how did you show Grit to solve your problems? (take some 
hands) 
 
In order to show girt we have to follow three important steps. (add these to anchor 
chart). 
1. Analyze the problem carefully 
2. Make a plan 
3. Use as many strategies as you need to solve the problem 
What happens if one strategy doesn’t work? We can learn from our beautiful 
mistakes and try another strategy.  
 

Video and Discussion:  


KIPPsters we are going to watch a video about two silly monsters, Mojo and KT. 
Mojo and KT are very good friends, but they have a problem. KT is better at some 
things than Mojo is. Let’s watch this video. As we watch the video we will be looking 
for ways that KT and Mojo do or do not show girt. (play video) 
 
 
Bring class back together for discussion. 
● What were some things you noticed KT was doing? 
● What were some things you noticed Mojo was doing? 
● How did KT and Mojo show grit? 
● What are some ways you would show grit if you were Mojo? 
 

Exit Ticket/ Closing: 


Thank you for your thoughtful reflections KIPPsters. As we wrap up you will go 
back to your seats and respond to the focusing question: How do you show Grit in 
school? Write your name on the back. You will write one sentence and draw a 
picture to show how you show grit. When you are finished make sure to turn in 
your cards to your table monitor.
