Carriages
Carriages for steel structures in
the crane and lifting equipment
Industry and also for applications
in general mechanical engineering,
Compact, driven rai-mounted
carriages for direct connection to
load-bearing structures. Carriages
are available with elther one or two
‘mounting plates.
KTL-8 carriages are box section, steel
structures with one driven wheel set
with motor and gearbox and one
‘non-diven wheel set
‘The carriage design is based on the
latest principles for box structures
‘and, even with high loads, has excel
lent traveling characteristics due to
the fine tolerances of the carriage
regarding track gauge errors, diagonal
position and misalignment. Specialy
rated heavy-design squirrel-cage
brake motors provide excellent
‘speed/torque characteristics, which
‘ensure smooth starting for both the

and selection
Under extreme operating conditions, the capacity and performance of support-
Ing parts and drive elements may be lower than specified in the tables. In
such cases, we recommend that you inquite at our offices. The safely factors
Incorporated in working load and drive torque data cover such applications as
shown in Table 14 by way of example. In the event of greatly increased safety
requirements too, we recommend that you consult us.
Using the following method, it is possible to select complete carriages with
travel motors for cranes, crabs, transfer cars and similar machines.
‘The selection is made on the basis of:
‘given data and classification according to conditions of use and loading,
«the permissible loading figures for travel wheel, shaft and bearings,
‘the permissible loading figures for the steel structure including the bolted
connection tothe adjoining structure,
+ the caracteristics and capacities of the gearbox and motor.

‘Classification of the mechanisms into one of the FEM groups.
‘Classification of steel structure inthe required liting class, and loading group
according to DIN 15018, H1 to H3 or B1 to B5. On the basis of exact know-
ledge of liting conditions, itis possible to classify individual crane parts
which can be considered separately, but which are an integral part of the
‘system, into differing liting classes. Thus, according to the particular ope-
rating conditions, itis possible for crane carriages to be placed in a lifting
‘class or loading group lower than that ofthe crane bridge for instance.
Carriages for crabs, on the other hand, shall be placed in the same group
land class as the crane bridge.

With cranes, for instance, Rrax and Rniq are determined from the changing
‘operating positions of the crab. For such wheel loads which change in the
course of operation at full load, the following formula is used:

Indoors at the rate of 40 cycles per hour, acceleration a ~ 0.15 m/s? with
‘squirrel-cage motors (KDF, KMF and KBF types).
Loading corresponding to the Groups of Mechanisms 1 Bm-3 m has been
taken into account.

=I a number of drive units are used, the mass to be moved, m, must be
divided by the number of drive units.
must be checked that the permissible travel wheel slipping torque, Mau is
