P ortable bolting products are used in a variety of underground mines around the world. Joy Bolting
Solutions include pneumatic and hydraulic roof and rib-bolters. Joy’s use of carbon composites result
in a lightweight, durable and portable product. Portable bolting products offer a low capital cost
solution to effective roofbolting.

Mobile Bolting Choices
M obile bolting products range from pneumatic, single head cable bolters to automated, multi-head
roof and rib-bolters. Joy offers a wide variety of mobile products available with either percussive or
rotary drilling units.

The multi-head bolters are known for their speed and reliability as well as their durability. The smaller
bolters are known for their use of advanced materials, compact design and their cost-effective solutions
to roof and rib-bolting.

JOY Cablebolters are available in various configurations. The compact designs allow quick and efficient
bolting in numerous applications. The electro-hydraulic cablebolters have the ability to install bolts up
to 49 feet (15 m) long.

In addition to bolters, Joy offers a broad range of gas drainage equipment. This includes machines for
gas drainage (in-seam and cross measure), exploration, instrumentation, face proving, resin injection,
core drilling and water infusion.

Ramtrak 2300
The RamTrak 2300 series bolters are highly advanced rapid penetration machines configured for use
by a single operator in “place change” operations. The RamTrak is capable of roof and rib-bolting in
working heights of 5.9 feet (1.8 m) and above. The compactness of these machines give them excellent
maneuverability. These electro-hydraulic bolters feature onboard condition monitoring, semi-automatic
drill operations and a temporary roof support. The RamTrak can be fitted with rotary or percussive
drills to suit conditions and is available in either
single or dual boom models.
Multibolter
The Multibolter is one of the most innovative additions to Joy’s bolting products. It is a multiple
drill-head, platform based, mobile bolter designed primarily for “place change” continuous miner
applications. The functional and ergonomic design reduces costs and increases productivity.
By eliminating swinging booms and many other moving parts, Joy has reduced repair costs,
enhanced operator safety, and extend the life of the unit.

The Multibolter can be designed to meet a wide range of operating conditions and seam heights.
You can match the number of drill units on your machine to your bolt pattern (i.e. up to five semi-
automatic bolting heads). The Multibolter is available in mist drill, wet drill or dry drill with a dust
collection system. In addition to its primary function, the versatile Multibolter can be used for
rockdusting and installing ventilation tubing.

The design of the platform provides quick and easy access to bolts and accessories as well as
a clear and safe work area. The hydraulically-actuated side platforms lower and enlarge the work
area when bolting, and raise to become a more compact unit when tramming. The Multi- bolter
provides ambient light and over 40 tons/36 tonnes of roof support through the Automated
Temporary Roof Support (ATRS).

Storage pods can hold 250 roofbolts, 150 rib-bolts and the associated chemical anchors and plates.
These storage pods are supplied via forklift or load haul dump (LHD).
Mobile Bolting Choices
Quadbolter
The latest generation Joy Quadbolter is the most productive boom style mobile bolter available on the
market today. It combines innovative design and proven Joy technology to provide the ultimate bolting
machine. The inherent advantages of a twin boom, four mast semi-auto bolter are more bolts installed
in less time with less effort .

The Quadbolter is capable of installing four bolts simultaneously using two operators. The outer roof
bolters can be rotated over to provide a rib-bolting function. Drilling is accomplished by the patented
HFX roofbolter and direct mast-mounted hydraulic controls. The mast-mount controls are directly
ported into the feed carrier eliminating most hosing and down-time associated with conventional
drilling equipment. The semi-automated control system allows the operator to smoothly install two
bolts in a parallel operation that significantly reduces cycle times.

A wide range of drills are available for rotary or percussive drilling. The rotary drills can be used in a
wet, mist or dry-drilling application.

The functionality of operators platform is of paramount importance. The Quadbolter has the largest
deck area available of any boom style bolter. Well lit and spacious, the layout provides the operator
opportunity to perform an arduous task with ease and safety. The platform has a large canopy
providing excellent protection for the operator. The canopy is rated to withstand a vertical load
of 2248 lbf (100kN) and has adjustable height settings.
The boom arrangement, with a unique parallel holding design, provides full range ability for medium
and high seam applications. The operator has the ability to adjust the level of the platform for varying
localized seam conditions. The standard Quadbolter has the option to raise the operators’ platform
and TRS an additional 23.6 inches (600 mm) for high seam operation.

A large capacity onboard materials pod provides storage for all bolting consumables. Operators have
a material storage tray mounted directly behind them for easy access.

The tramming and TRS station provides excellent all round vision, is spacious and well lit while a large
walkway provides safe access thru the center of the machine.
Onboard Bolting Choices
O nboard bolting products are designed to maximize the advance rate of continuous miners
and roadheaders through faster bolting cycle times. The hydraulic roof and rib-bolters are compact
modular designs and are made virtually wear resistant.

Joy’s onboard products outdate the “steel on steel”, “wear-out and replace” designs of the past.
The patented carrier system eliminates the unnecessary maintenance and replacement of slides
and bushings. Onboard bolting products use advanced materials, automation and patented designs to
lower costs and improve bolting cycle times.

HMX Roofbolter
The HMX is a heavy duty, low maintenance drill feed for mast style roof bolting machines. It offers
high value though reliability and durability. The HMX is modular and non-handed which will reduces
inventory. Several options are available including a clamping top plate and a timber jack or drop mast.
Multiple rotation unit arrangements are available for this drill.

The patented HMX features a set of hardened, corrosion resistant slide rods
and sealed, automatically lubricated slide blocks which:
- Eliminate wear, extending rebuild cycles by 2 to 3 times.
- Reduce maintenance by eliminating the need for gib grease
and shims.
- Increase productivity because of accurate and rigid slides.

JOY Autobolter
The JOY Autobolter is a highly efficient roof bolter that is designed to perform a semi-automated
drilling and bolting sequence within the period of the continuous miner's shear cycle. With an eight
bolt carousel, two continuous miner mounted autobolters can remotely drill and install 16 mechanical
bolts before reloading. The rigid crossbar slide provides for precision drilling and bolt insertion as it
stays aligned for both operations. The autobolter uses an internally lubricated carrier unit and
hardened chrome slide rods to provide excellent reliability with very low maintenance.
HFX Roofbolter
The HFX telescopic roofbolter is designed to be a key component in automated
roofbolting systems. Mounted on continuous miners, roadheaders or other mobile
equipment, it provides fast reliable roofbolting. The highly reliable semi-automation
system provides for either single lever auto-drilling or manual operation. It also
provides auto water on-off and mast extend-retract during a drilling cycle. A very
important safety feature is the ability to disable the auto drill function by simply
depressing a button. The HFX features a completely sealed carrier unit that virtually
eliminates wear to the hardened chrome slide bars and integration of the carrier and
the slide bars provide outstanding structural stiffness. Available in two and three
stage versions as well as rib-bolter models. These features provide optimum roof-
bolter performance combined with reliability and a reduction in life cycle costs.

Mist Drilling - An Industry First

Joy has developed a Mist Drilling System that incorporates the best of both wet and dry drilling.
Compared to wet drilling, JOY Mist Drilling offers as much as a 90% reduction in water use. As a
result, floor and roof conditions are tremendously improved and coal moisture content is reduced.
This offers a safer and more comfortable work environment for operators. Mist drilling can offer a
3 dBA or more reduction in noise levels compared to dry drilling and bit life can be significantly
improved. Maintenance of dry dust collection systems is eliminated. Holes are cleaner and operators
experience a further reduction of exposure to respirable dust.

A mist system for two drill heads uses a 50 cfm hydraulically powered compressor, two mixing
blocks, a tank and a heat exchanger. Several options are available to meet your specific needs.
The mist system can be retrofitted to any existing bolting machine or miner-bolter and can be
specified on new bolting equipment.
Portable Bolting Choices
P ortable bolting products consist of numerous portable drillings, including the Wombat, Mongoose
ProRam and WASP series of bolters. All of these units use advanced materials to make them lightweight
yet tough. JOY Bolting Solutions provide cost effective answers to the requirement for high performance
portable roofbolters. The units advanced features include innovative design, rapid penetration rate,
easy use, quick set-up and portability. JOY Bolting Solutions also include hand-held rib-bolters.

Wombat
The Wombat is a technically advanced pneumatic roofbolter. It is known worldwide as a tough,
versatile workhorse for underground roofbolting applications. Now in its sixth generation, the Wombat
again redefines the state-of-the-art. Exhaustive analysis has allowed further improvements in reliability,
time-in-service and reduced cost. The Wombat features the highest power to weight ratio of any
pneumatic roofbolter.

Mongoose
The Mongoose is the first hydraulic powered bolter to imitate the performance of a pneumatic bolter.
The modular designed leg is constructed of a carbon/epoxy aluminum composite that is lightweight
and extremely strong. Internal porting of the Mongoose eliminates hoses and reduces downtime.

ProRam
The ProRam is a multipurpose drill rig and cablebolter designed for use in a harsh underground
environment. The versatility of this equipment has resulted in its use in many applications.
This dual-through-spindle drill rig is constructed from a carbon/kevlar composite to provide
high performance in a lightweight package.

WASP
The WASP is a new generation lightweight hydraulic rib-bolter that is designed to reduce operator
effort and improve ergonomics. The WASP features an exceptional weight to performance ratio,
low operating costs, low noise, limited vibration and a handle that
positions the operator’s hands and wrists for minimum stress.
