John Lou D - San Pascual Stem 11 - 9 Our Vote Is Our Future

The document discusses several key issues regarding politics and voting in the Philippines: 1) Philippine politics is complex, with politicians using gimmicks and attacking each other personally during campaigns. 2) Many citizens do not vote due to a lack of understanding or trust in the political system, though voting is an important right that honors the struggles of past activists. 3) Candidates use money for advertising and campaigns, giving wealthier candidates an advantage. Elections also face issues like vote buying and killings that undermine the democratic process. 4) The document argues citizens should vote wisely for candidates with high ethics and intelligence who will make decisions that benefit the people and country as a whole.

Our Vote is Our Future

Politics in the Philippines is very complicated. Politicians use many kinds of gimmickry
to put their name across the country to gather voters. Every election in the Philippines, the
country seems to active; too many things seem to be happening. The Philippines is known for
how politics in the country can be very personal. Politicians attack other politicians to a personal
level and all these are witnessed by the country and are sometimes regard as entertainment for its
worthlessness.Being a democratic country, we are given the opportunity to choose our country’s
leaders called ‘election’. Every citizen has the right to vote, yet so many people don’t vote
.There are a number of reasons why people may not vote: a lack of understanding of politics,
people being busier, a lack of trust in the government, laziness, not caring with how things are.
Not voting when you have the right to is disrespectful to a lot of people. It disrespects those that
fought and struggled for the right to vote and not be discriminated against, because to not vote is
to not value the contribution and sacrifice that they made for all of us. However, it is possible
that many people do not value the movements because they are ignored from our own history.

During campaign, candidates use many gimmicks. Those who have enough funds afford
to be in commercials on primetime television. In light of this, it is easy to say that politicians are
able to do gimmicks as long as they have the funds. Those who are part of the main political
parties campaign as one record which is formed together by the same set of beliefs, interests,
motivations and platforms. For independent candidates, these are politicians who usually don’t
agree with the platforms of the major political parties. Usually, independent candidates tend to be
tagged as revolutionary. When we vote, we can make government better or worse. Our votes can
make people’s lives better or worse. Voting is morally significant. Voting changes the quality,
scope, and kind of government. The way we vote can help or harm people. Electoral outcomes
can be harmful or beneficial, just or unjust. They can exploit the minority for the benefit of the
majority. They can do widespread harm with little benefit for anyone.Poverty and corruption in
the Philippines has long been a topic of concern for those interested in improving the conditions
in the area. The corruption of government officials and the failure of governmental leaders to use
their position of power wisely has led to ongoing financial hardship throughout the nation and
restricted its economic growth and cultural development. The Philippines has been known as an
area suffering from such severe corruption.

Electorates should vote for candidates with high intellectual and moral virtues because
our choice will decide our future . Once we’ve done a wrong move , we can ‘ t take it back
anymore . We need to finish the term to fix our mistakes and we should not wait for that to
happen . Our country need candidates that would listen to the complaints of their people We
should vote wisely so that we can choose our candidate that will help us to achieve the change
that we want . We should vote who is truly right and just for that position . Voting is like buying
but I ’m not saying voting is buying . Voting is like buying because once you bought something
you can ‘ t return it anymore . Voting for high intellectual and moral virtues is a must because if
you vote an individual that has it , he / she knows how to decide well , they know what is best for
their country considering people as well as our God . Candidates who lack in high intellectual
and moral virtues are worst because they are doing such experiment that would help our country
become better but if that experiment fails , we are the one who will suffer from it . We should not
be carried away with the flowery words of candidates . Action is more powerful than words . We
need to vote the one that have a concept of intersubjectivity . He / she must be considerate to
others and should not be selfish . He / she should obey the voice of his / her people . To be a
good leader , first be a good follower .

Election in the Philippines is also filled with controversy and is sometimes damaged with
numerous cases of killings. Many voters, both in the cities and provinces are sometimes go to
vote buying. People are given certain amounts of money to make sure that they vote for certain
candidates. It is obvious that this is an illegal act but somehow, people who commit it continue to
get away with it. There are also cases of flying voters . The flow of Philippine politics and
elections signifies the true condition of the country. When they win, usually, their promises just
vanish into the air. This is a simple explanation of why the Philippines is still in trouble and there
is a lot to be improved and developed. The Philippines have many politicians yet there are still
no real leaders visible.

The main argument against making voting compulsory is that the people that aren’t
voting currently don’t care, and will just pick randomly and could make bad choices and ruin the
votes of those that thought carefully. However, although people may not actively vote to improve
their country, they wouldn’t actively vote to make it worse, so if they had to vote they would put
some effort in. If we all had to vote, we would all understand more and the country would be
better off. This year is our chance to cope with this. Make shrewd decisions and choices because
our choices will affect our future. We shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never
ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility. You and I are
essentially infinite choice-makers. In every moment of our existence, we are in that field of all
possibilities where we have access to infinity of choices. The chains continue to ignite. I am part
of the chain; you are part of the chain. Can we be chains of positive change ? For sure, none
would claim he has seen three sides of a coin. Decisions, coming by two, are always placed in
the individual’s capacity to find out truthfulness and goodness against fallacy or immorality. Are
you HEADing out for a brighter country free from corruption and poverty or are you TAILing
down on a movement towards poor Philippines?
