and circle) in 2-dimensional (flat/plane) and 3-dimensional (solid) objects.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic : Identification of common objects in the environment
Comparison of the characteristics of shapes.
B. References: Curriculum Guide page 21
Teacher’s Guide page 141
Pupils’ Activity Sheet
C. Materials: pictures, containers, cartolina, scissors, glue, manila paper
III. Procedure
A. Preparatory Activities:
1. Drill:
What shapes do you see for the following objects?
a. Handkerchief
b. Umbrella
c. Ice cream cone
d. Box of crayons
e. Sharpener
2. Review:
Box the name of the shape in the left.

b. rectangle square circle
c. square rectangle triangle
d. circle square rectangle
3. Motivation:

Square and circle (2x)
Triangle (2x)
Rectangle and oblong (2x)
Diamond (2x)
B. Discussion:
Post the activity done by the pupils yesterday on the board.
(Group similar shapes)
C. Group Reporting:
Call the leaders of each group and explain how did they come up with the
groupings. What shape does the first group have? (circle) second? (triangle) third?
(rectangle) last group? (square)
D. Processing the Result of the Activity:
Why did you combine the shapes, first group? What basis did you use? What
characteristic does the objects have, first group? What is the difference of the
shapes of the first group with other shapes?
(Use the same method for the other groups of shapes)
E. Generalization:
How do you describe a circle? Triangle? Rectangle? Square? How do they
differ and how are they similar?
Note:
A circle has no sides and no corners.
A triangle has three sides and three corners.
A square has four equal sides and four corners.
A rectangle has 2 equal sides and four corners.
F. Application:
Use cut-outs and let the pupils group them according to shapes.
IV. Evaluation:
Circle the letter of your answer.
1. A shape that has 3 sides?
a. Circle b. Triangle c. Square
2. A shape that has 4 equal sides with 4 equal sides?
a. Circle b. Square c. Rectangle
3. A shape that has no side?
a. Rectangle b. Square c. Circle
4. A shape that has 4 sides with 2 equal sides?
a. Square b. Circle c. Rectangle
V. Assignment:
