The jacking oil system protects the turbines journal bearings during start-up and shut-
down. The shaft of the steam turbine rests on the journal bearings. Before the shaft is
turned, jacking oil is supplied to the bearings to lift the shaft so that it floats on an oil film
rather than on the metal surface of the bearings.
Before the rotor is jacked up, a micro meter gauge shall be used to measure and record
the position of each journal top, then the throttle valve shall be opened one by one to
make the jacking height of each journal range from 0.02mm to 0.05mm, and the jacking
pressure and jacking height of each journal shall be recorded. In case the oil pressure of
the branch pipe is up to 14MPa and jacking height of the journal is less than 0.02mm,
the oil pressure of the branch pipe shall not be regulated any more
