shades that make you feel
best, so choose one for your
walls. As you narrow down
your options, consider the
paints’ undertones—the
tints you don’t immediately
see (the way teal has green

LIGHT IS EVERYTHING!
A paint color can look very different in the store than on your walls! South-facing rooms get loads
of warm sunlight that balances out cooler-toned paints. In a room with less natural light, use warm-
toned colors (like amber) to keep the space from looking stark. Artificial lighting matters, too: Higher-
temperature bulbs (check the packaging if you’re not sure) give off a soft, bluish hue that pairs best with
cool colors. Low-temp lights have an orangey tint that goes with warmer shades. Be sure to test the color
before finalizing your choice: Get a few swatches, tape them to walls and note how the colors look at
different times of day. Settle on the one that looks the best during the time you’ll use the room most.

There’s a virus out there that hasn’t been talked about much, and
you may not have heard about it. A virus that’s serious, like HIV.
It’s hepatitis C (Hep C). It can hide in your body for years, even
decades, without symptoms. And it isn’t tested for in routine blood
work. If left untreated, Hep C can cause liver damage and even lead
to liver cancer.
The good news is: if you have Hep C, it can be cured. Ask your
healthcare provider at your next appointment to be tested for Hep C.
It’s the only way to know for sure.

BACK THEN
Upside-down cakes
date back to the Middle
Ages, but the pineapple
version didn’t become
mainstream until 1925,
when Dole Food Co.
held a recipe contest
to promote its exotic
pineapple products. The
cake gained popularity
in the ‘50s, when island
fever swept the U.S. and
convenience items like
canned fruit were trendy.
