(LIC) is situated on the outer road
of Connaught Circle.

 It acts as a pivot between the

colonnades of Connaught Place
and the new generation of high-
rise towers that now surround it.

 The building is both proscenium

and backdrop: faceted glass
surfaces reflect the buildings and
trees around Connaught Place,
L.I.C. JEEWAN BHARTI and beyond which the new high-
1979-1985 rise imagery of Delhi can be

PLANNING

 The two lower levels of the

complex consist of shopping
decks and restaurants.

 The ground coverage of the

building is 6200 square metres.

 The upper levels of offices are

located in two separate wings,
generating a total built-up area
of 63,000 square metres.

AESTHETIC
FEATURES
The building has a no. of other
important elements that
contributes to the aesthetic
beauty of the building. These are
:

 Space Frame that connects

both the blocks as one unit.

 Stack Panel Glazing that is

entirely used for the façade.

 Sandstone Wall Cladding

that beautifies the entire
building.
SPACE FRAME
 It is a truss like , lightweight, rigid
structure constructed from interlocking
struts in a geometric pattern.

 Space frames can be used to span large

areas with few interior supports.

 A space frame is strong because of :

 The inherent rigidity of the

triangle.

 The bending moment is

transmittted as
tension and compression loads
along the length of each strut.

It is composed of planar substructures.

The plane are channeled through the
horizontal bars and the shear forces
are supported by the diagonals.

A 98 meters long pergola connects

the two buildings.

STACKPANEL GLAZING
The term ‘structural glass’ is a term used to describe a large
number of frameless glass assemblies where the glass itself
is taking an element of the structural loads that are
applied to the elevation or surface. The glazing used in this
building is called stackpanel glazing.

JEEVAN BHARTI BHAVAN HAS GLASS

BEAMS AND FINS.
FEATURES OF THE GLAZING:

 Zone drainage - each pane acts as an individual self

draining unit
 Side load
 Stack joint
 Fully drained and pressure equalised
 Lifting rail
 The system accommodates glass or infill panels up to
32mm
 Complies with thermal regulations
 Horizontal cap with vertical silicone joint

 Seismic movement capability.
SANDSTONE WALL CLADDING
CLADDING
A no. of office buildings in Delhi are seen
cladded with RED SAND STONE. Red sand RED SANDSTONE is used in the
stone cladding are very common in Delhi as a
most part of the building apart from
building material as it is cheap and economic.
Renowned buildings built with red sand stone structural glass glazing.
cladding are STC BUILDING, JEEVAN BHARTI DIMENSIONS of the SANDSTONE
BHAVAN etc. used:
MANY RENOWNED ARCHITECTS LIKE
CHARLES CHORREA , RAJ REWAL USED 1) 2’’x2’’x1 inch
RED SAND STONE AS A CLADDING
MATERIAL IN THEIR BUILDING. JEEVAN
BHARTI BHAVAN IN CONNAUGHT PLACE IS 2) 2.5’’x1.2’’x1 inch
ONE OF THOSE BUILDINGS.

FIXING OF CLADDING

 The cladding of the building is

primarily done with red
sandstone.
 It is fixed with mortar and then
screw bolted at the center for the
protection during earthquakes.
