Melissa clearly understands how to unpack standards and develop essential questions. She understands how to choose specific math problems that gradually bring students to meet the objective of the lesson. Her
guided instruction is scaffolded and differentiated as well. She seems naturally able to plan creative math lessons that are engaging and meet the students at their level. The students find her activities fun and
engaging.

I sense there is a disconnect between the requirement for measurable objectives between the School District of Philadelphia, Drexel School of Education Dragons Teach Program, and some of the resident's
coursework. She struggles at times to write measurable objectives that meet all three expectations. Meanwhile objectives are not able to be utilized by the students as they are too "wordy" or measurable. Melissa
understands the essential topic or skill required within the objective and how the students must meet these. She writes excellent lesson plans according to them, however at times the objectives in the lesson plans are
confusing.

Melissa enjoys creating lessons that are unique and creative. They are engaging and fun. For example, she just completed an "Escape Room" lesson that had the students solving a serious of math questions to
unlock codes. A true math scavenger hunt. Besides her engaging activities, Melissa also understands how to design a gradual release lesson that includes bell work, direct instruction, guided instruction, and
independent practice, and exit tickets. She uses assessment to guide her decisions and confronts mathematical misconceptions.
