Chapter 7: Groups and Teams

Summary and Application

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Identify several different groups that you belong to and classify them as one of the group types
discussed in this chapter.

As an individual, I can say that I have circle of friends and I can classify them as “mutual acceptance”
because they are my friends since I was in elementary and high school. We may have different
interests in life but I believe we have commonalities which keeps us together.

2. Think about an effective team you have been on. What made it effective? Think about an
underperforming team you have been on. Why was it underperforming?

As a student, I can say that the most effective team that I’ve been on was my thesis team because
along with the mutual acceptance, we also motivate one another in order to achieve a goal.

3. Are any of the groups to which you belong too large or too small to get their work done? If so,
what can the leader or the members do to alleviate the problem?

As a student, I’ve experienced conducting different kind of events – it may be big or small teams.
However, I believe that in order to meet the goal, all of the members should adjust. If the event needs
to have big labor force, everyone should extend their assistance and service to one another.
