1) Political History of the Portfolio:
Born to a tamilian family in Madurai. Joined the BJP in 2006, after returning from
London. Mrs.Sitharaman eventually went on to become the national spokesperson for the
BJP in 2010. In 2014, after BJP won the elections, Nirmala Sitharaman was appointed as
a Junior Minister in Narendra Modi's cabinet. In June 2014, Sitharaman was elected as a
Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh. In May 2016, she contested and won the
Karnataka seat in Rajya Sabha elections.
On September 3, 2017, Nirmala Sitharaman was appointed as the Minister of Defence.
She is the second female to hold this post after Indira Gandhi and the first one to hold it
full-time.
On May 31, 2019, Sitharaman joined the office as the Finance and Corporate Affairs
Minister and is India's first full-time female Finance Minister. On July 5, Sitharaman
presented her maiden budget in the parliament. On February 1, 2020, she presented the
Union Budget 2020-21. After the COVID-19 crisis, Sitharaman became the in-charge of
the COVID-19 Economic Response Task Force, in her capacity as the ministry of
Finance.
2) Entire History of The Political Party:
The BJP was founded in 1980, and is a party that holds the unique privilege of having led
the opposition each time it has not formed the government itself, post 1991. Its
establishment after 1980, the BJP won 2 lok sabha seats in 1984 in its first ever lok-sabha
run. After this, in 1996 the BJP was able to, for the 1st time, establish a majority. This
government headed under Shri Atal Bhihari Vajpayee, however, lasted only for 13 days.
The 1998 and 1999 govts. also saw the BJP heading the majority in the form of a
coalition.
Things Changed severely in 2014, when the party won an outright majority under
Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. The government went on to introduce multiple
significant economic and political reforms. These were primarily the IBC 2016,
Demonetization and even significant political reforms in the form of the removal of
article 370 of the Indian Constitution.
3) Demographics of the State:
According to the 2011 census of India, the total population of Karnataka is 6.25 crores.
Of this, 50.9% are male and 49.1% are female. There is a decadal increase in population
of 17.3% from 1991 to 2001. As per 2011 census, the Population density is 319 per km²,
the sex ratio is 973 females to 1000 males and 38.67% of the people in Karnataka live in
urban areas. The literacy rate is 75.4% (as per the 2011 census). As per the 2001 census,
the eight largest cities of Karnataka in order of their population are Bengaluru,
Hubballi-Dharwad, Mysuru, Belagavi, Kalburgi, Mangaluru, Davanagere and Ballari.
84% of the population are Hindu, 12.9% are Muslim, 1.9% are Christian, 0.7% are Jains,
0.2% are Buddhist, <0.1% are Sikhs, and remaining belong to other religions.
4) History of Posts:
