Reading
10 Read the text and underline the correct information.

a) The writer is older / younger than his sister.

b) Jack is the writer’s nephew / brother.
c) Jack and the writer liked / didn’t like each other as children.
d) The writer / Jack is studying at university now.
e) The writer likes Jack because he earns a lot of money / he’s funny.

My mother and father already had three older children when I was born. My two brothers were
thirteen and seventeen, and my sister was nineteen. I was the baby of the family. When my sister got
married and had my nephew, Jack, I was three. So my nephew was more like my brother. When we
were children we spent a lot of time together. I was a typical last child – quite naughty – I was always
getting into trouble. I left school when I was sixteen and got a job in a shop. But Jack was a typical
first child. He worked hard at school, and was much more ambitious than me. I got interested in
studying much later than Jack, and started university last year. I’m training to be a teacher. Jack’s got
a great job now as a director of his own company, and he earns a lot more money than I will. But the
best thing about Jack is his sense of humour. He’s the funniest person I know. When we see each other
we feel like children again!
