Product Specification Sheet:

Tinogalvanize Zinc Rich Primer

Zinc dust primer with outstanding corrosion prevention Nr.16660N
Non-toxic after drying. Free of lead, mercury cadmium & chromium

CHARACTERISTICS
Cold galvanize air drying one pack zinc rich primer containing an extremely high proportion of metallic zinc
dust (more than 96% in total pigments) in a cold cured binder with weather & chemical resistant, resulting in
an outstanding protective mechanism of galvanic action between the zinc & the metal substrate (having
similar action of hot-dip or electro galvanizing) that protects steel surfaces and prevents corrosion.
Tinogalvanize Zinc Rich Primer is intended to be used as a primer/finish coat and repair system on steel in
high and very high corrosivity of marine and industrial environments and exterior exposed polluted coastal
atmosphere.
It is non-toxic after drying & is resistant to alkalis, water, chemicals & weather effects. It could be top coated
with TINOMARINE CHLORINATED RUBBER or TINORETHANE POLYURETHANE intermediate and
finishing paints.

TECHNICAL DATA
Tinogalvanize Zinc Rich Primer complies with the International Specifications & technical requirements of
British Standard BS5493 “One pack chemical resistant primer” and is approved by L’Electricité de France
(EDF) and L’Electricité du Liban. (EDL).

COMPOSITION
- Main pigment Zinc Dust in total pigments 96% - Zinc Dust in non-volatile of paint 81%
- Total solids by weight 77% - Density kg/L 2.2
- Total solids, by volume 41% - Flash Point 42°C

RECOMMENDED USES
As an exterior & interior primer/ finish on steel of structures, marine and coastal installations, electrical py-
lons, bridges, refineries, chemical plants, pipelines, sewage works, storage tanks, water reservoirs, welded
areas without any deleterious effect on the weld quality etc... in industrial, urban and marine environments .

SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces must be solid, clean and dry, free from rust, oil, salt, dirt, and other contaminants.
Treatment of non-painted steel surfaces:
Rust, mill scale and contaminants should be removed. Best results are obtained by abrasive blasting to
International Standards. Steel in corrosive environments should be sand blasted to Sa 2½ standards. If oxi-
dation occurs between the time of sand blasting & priming, the surface should be reblasted & cleaned to the
specified standard.
Mechanical cleaning and thorough wire brushing followed by washing to St2 Standards is often sufficient for
normal exposures in low corrosivity environments (category C2) and in medium corrosivity environment
(category C3) for low durability period.
Treatment of previously painted surfaces:
Rust spots and disintegrated coatings should be removed by sand blasting, flame spraying, paint removers
or mechanical tools and properly cleaned, preferably with pressurized water cleaning.

THINNING
Use TINOSOLVE 1005 for brush/ roller application, & TINOSOLVE1003 for spray application. Thinning
should not exceed 10%.

APPLICATION
As per Code of Practice and the recommendations of ISO 12944-5.
For best results, within 4-6 hours of surface preparation, mix contents of container thoroughly, thin if needed,
& apply with brush, roller or spray (preferably airless spray). It is advisable to stir contents of container during
application at short time intervals to avoid settling of pigments. Recommended film thickness is 40µm d.f.t..
For repair works, spot prime rusted or damaged areas, then apply the intermediate and top coats.
Intermediate and top coats thicknesses vary according to corrosivity category and service life required.
Paint systems as recommended by ISO 12944-5 for various applications are available separately.

DRYING & RECOATING TIME

At a temperature of 23°C & 65% r.h.
- Dries to touch in about 1 hour - Dries to recoat overnight
- Dries to handle in about 24 hours - Dries thoroughly in abt. 72 hours.

GLOSS
Matt finish.

COVERAGE
Depends on the film thickness required & texture of the surface.
Contents of 3 litre gallon cover 31sq.m. at 40 µm d.f.t.

WARRANTY
TINOL products are warranted to be free of material and manufacturing defects, and to give the performance
required of good quality coatings of International Standards, when properly applied in accordance with the
written directions and the Code of Practice.
If any product proves to contain material or manufacturing defects that substantially affect its performance, it
will be either replaced free of charge or purchase price will be reimbursed. Other liabilities or claims for any
consequential loss or damage are disclaimed.

LABELLING & SAFE HANDLING

Flammable liquid, keep away from flame, high heat or sources of ignition.
Arrange for adequate ventilation upon application especially when spraying in closed areas.
All liquid solvent bearing industrial paints need handling with care. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not smoke,
eat or drink while applying those products.
The dry film becomes non-toxic and is free of harmful materials.
Keep container tightly closed.
Do not contaminate with surface water and do not pour into drainage system.
