It was really tricky to fin d the right shade of red/ oran ge for this on e
– it looks like it chan ges so much depen din g on the picture of
Flareon you’re lookin g at. Even tually I wen t with this on e –
Cleckheaton Coun try 8 ply in Auburn COL 2 3 6 2 . The colour of the
fluffy parts can also look quite yellow in a lot of the pictures, but I
just couldn ’t fin d a colour that wasn ’t too yellow. I wen t with an

ivory colour. I like it a bit paler an yway.
This pattern is very very similar to Eevee – in fact, the base pattern
is exactly the same with differen t colours an d a much larger amoun t

Next, we’re goin g to cut out the darker in sides of Eevee’s ear from
dark blue or black felt – the choice is up to you, I’ve seen pictures
where either colour looks correct. I’ve don e min e in dark blue
because I like the con trast. S imply glue it in place!

An d the crochetin g part is don e! Don ’t rest too easy though, there’s
still a bit of work to go.
Next, stuff the head, body an d legs. The tail should already be
stuffed, an d the arms are usually so small that they don ’t n eed it.
The ears don ’t either – plus we already pressed them flat.

The n ext step is to fluffify the tail. We’re usin g the same hook-an d-
latch techn ique that we did for Eevee’s fluffy collar (an d will be
recreatin g later for Flareon ’s fluffy collar). We’re goin g aroun d the
base of the tail – where it will join to the body later, an d attachin g
stran ds of yarn in the cream/ yellow colour to be brushed out. I’ve
added a bun ch of coloured pin s to the tail in the picture below to
mark where these stran ds will go – you wan t to make it so that they
n aturally poin t towards the tip, so in sert your hook towards the base
of the tail.
To attach the pieces of yarn to the tail:
1 . In sert your hook in to the doll as pictured below.
2 . Fold on e of the pieces in yarn in half, an d put it on the hook.
3 . P ull the piece of yarn through the stitch.
4 . Grab the tails an d pull them through the loop you’ve just created.
5 . P ull the yarn tight, makin g sure that the piece of yarn is firmly
attached.
Even tually you en d up with this mop lookin g thin g. Then , grab the
metal pet brush or fin e tooth comb an d go to town brushin g that
yarn out un til it is n ice an d fuzzy. Usually you’ll en d up with a lot of
leftover fluff in the bristles of the comb – don ’t throw that out.
We’re goin g to use it to make Flareon ’s hairdo n ext.

On ce the tail is sufficien tly fluffy, you can smooth it an d twist it to
help it keep it’s shape. At this poin t you could hairspray it to help
main tain shape, glue the crocheted part of the tail an d then smooth
the fluff over the yarn . I usually prefer to take a feltin g n eedle an d
poke it a little bit to help keep it in place – n ot too much, I don ’t
min d if it’s a little wild.
At this poin t, you wan t to attach the ears to the head, because n ext
comes the slightly tricky part – gettin g Flareon ’s cool hairdo sorted.
Leafeon had a similar sort of hair-thin k happen in g as well, but I
tried somethin g n ew this time. Flareon ’s head-fluff is en tirely
n eedle felted on .
I took the leftover fluff from the tail an d rolled it between my han ds
quickly to compress it an d give it an almon d shape. In the picture
below, the shape I’ve created is on the left, an d the un shaped fluff is
on the right.
I basically got the feltin g n eedle, pin n ed the shaped felt in to place,
an d then poked away, movin g an d shapin g the fluff as I wen t to get
the look that I wan ted. Then I turn ed an other bit of loose fluff in to
the almon d shape an d added to the volume. I tried to get a video of
this, sin ce it’s pretty hard to show in pictures – hopefully this will

The video has n o soun d, in case you thin k your speakers are broken
haha.
If you fin d you’re havin g trouble creatin g the shape you like on
Flareon ’s head this way, you could try an d recreate the style I did for
Leafeon – attachin g the stran ds like we did for the tail an d then
brushin g them out an d shapin g. I fin d n eedle feltin g it is a little n ice
to look at, but probably a bit more fragile as well – it can come off
with a firm tug or two.
That’s it for the fluff (for n ow!), n ow it’s time for assembly. I like to
pin all of the body pieces together to help position them an d get an
idea of where to sew them. I’ve had a few people ask how I attach the
limbs on my doll, so I’ll poin t you to the P lan etJun e tutorial on the
subject – this is how I try to do. S ometimes I get lazy an d it’s n ot
quite as n eat an d organ ised haha.

I usually attach them in this order: legs to body, arms to body, tail to
body, ears to head, an d fin ally, head to body. Be careful when you’re
join in g the head an d the body – I foun d the tail was a bit difficult
an d kept gettin g caught by my n eedle, so just watch out for that.
For the last bit of fluff, you’ll n eed 2 4 len gths of the cream/ yellow
yarn . We’re basically goin g to attach on e of the pieces to every stitch
aroun d Flareon ’s n eck – just like for the Eevee pattern . If you wan t
S UP ER fluff, feel free to add even more pieces. Try makin g some
diagon al, so that it covers a little more of the n eck.

Attach all the pieces an d go at it again with the brush. You could also
do this part with the leftover fluff like we did for the head – I haven ’t
tried it, maybe n ext time. I’ll usually go back in with a feltin g n eedle
for the collar as well to tame it a little bit.
Aaaan d don e! I thin k this has been my favourite Eeveelution so far,
an d I’m defin itely gettin g that impression from you guys as well.
Hope you like her, have fun !~
