LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, most pupils will be able to segment at least 5 words with (i-e) sound into phonemes with

1. Draw pupils’ attention to the picture. (Activity 1 SB page 73)
2. Ask pupils to find objects in the picture with (i-e) sound. (bike,kite)
I. PRE-LESSON 3. Write the words on the board.
4. Brainstorm all the words with (i-e) sound that they can think of.
5. Write pupils’ responses in bubble map form.
1. Review the phoneme (i-e) by showing the action.
2. Demonstrate how to sound it out.
3. Get the pupils to listen, articulate the sound, and perform the action.
4. Show flashcards to the pupils.
5. Read each word, emphasise the phoneme (i-e).
6. Get the pupils to listen and repeat.
II. LESSON 7. Demonstrate segmentation of a word. Practise with the pupils.
DEVELOPMENT 8. Organise pupils into groups.
9. Distribute a set of snap cards to each group. All the cards are placed face down on table and
pupils try to turn over two cards with same sound. Instead of saying snap when the pupil
have two cards the same they have to say the word and segment it. The player who wins all
the cards (or who has the most cards after 5 minutes) wins the game.
10. Monitor and help as and when necessary.

III. POST LESSON 4. In pairs, they compare their answers.
