SECTION A
• Write an essay on one of the following topics.
• Your essay should be between 200 and 250 words in length.
• Do not repeat the guidelines. That means: do not rewrite the introduction to the
question.
1 A world without rules …
One day you woke up to a world without any rules. All of a sudden everyone could
do whatever they wanted. Explain what the world would be like.
2 Christmas dinner
Write an essay in which you tell a story about a Christmas dinner that you will
never forget.
3 The value of parents/guardians
Parents/guardians are our first and best teachers in life. Describe a time when you
learned a valuable lesson from one of your parents/guardians.
In your essay you should clearly mention the valuable lesson you learnt and give
reasons why it was a valuable lesson. Also refer to the special qualities of your
parent/guardian.
4 That day/night seemed to go on forever
Write a story that should end with: “That day/night seemed to go on forever”.
5 Smaller families versus larger families
In the past, many families preferred (chose) to have more children, however, today
more families choose to have only one or two children.
What are your views on this? Write an essay in which you argue for or against the
above statement.
6 A career of my choice
Write an essay in which you explain why you are interested in a particular career
and also mention its advantages and appeal (attractions) to you personally.

SECTION B
• Answer one question from this section.
• The content should be between 150 and 180 words in length.
• Do not rewrite the introduction to the question.
1 Friendly letter
Write a letter to a friend reminding him/her about a holiday trip you have planned to
undertake to a place of your choice.
In your letter you should mention the name of the place you are going to, when you
are going and why during that period, the activities to be performed and things that
he/she should bring along and why.
2 Formal letter
While you were studying for an examination, you experienced a power outage
(power failure) in your town/village.
Write a letter to the Managing Director of CENORED to complain about how the
power outage (power failure) affected your study and also suggest ways to avoid
this situation in future.

3 Report
Your school recently celebrated its fiftieth birthday. Write a report for your school
magazine, describing the event that took place. Your article should include
• the importance of celebrating the fiftieth birthday
• your class group's contributions
• what activities were offered
• your feelings about the event
• whether you enjoyed/did not enjoy the event and why
4 Review
During the school holiday, you spent most of your leisure time (free time) watching
movies. You have to write a review of your favourite movie for the English lesson.
Include the following in your review:
• title of the movie
• type of movie
• what the movie is all about
• the main characters
• what you have learnt from the movie
• who you recommend it to and why
