INTRODUCTION

GRADE 12 Senior High School Students have started their work immersion

related to their selected academic track or their selected vocational course. The

immersion trains students and strengthen their skill or expertise for their work in the

future. It is part of the K-12 program which prepares students to work in companies .

According to the Department of Education, this program is an 80-hour hands-

on encounter which Senior High students must experience to open them to the

genuine working environment setting and improve their abilities learned in school. The

Department of Labor and Employment said work this is an integral part of the K to 12

Program in fully realizing its goal to produce job-ready graduates equipped with

industry-based skills. DOLE strongly affirms that work immersion contributes to the full

realization of the objectives of the K to 12 Program.

The work immersion is a part of the Senior High School Curriculum of the

Department of Education (DepEd) in which students will experience the actual job and

work guidelines that is simulated in every companies. The work immersion is not an

actual agreement to work but rather a process in which the students demonstrate the

process of working and improve the knowledge shared by schools. Also this is where

the imitation of the real work takes shape (Philjob.net, 2016)

8
“Work Immersion will help develop among learners life and career skills, and

will prepare them to make decisions on postsecondary education or employment,” the

guidelines read.” Through partnership building, DepEd hopes that partner institutions

will provide learners with work immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on

experience, and additional learning resources,” it added. The agency said school may

partner with recognized institutions or organizations to come up with agreements on

work immersion for students. As the students are still minors, DepEd said work

immersion requires parental consent. President Aquino, the different government

institutions involved in education, and Congress has since made K to 12 a reality

rather than a mere ideal. As I looked over the paradigm created by the steering

committee of the K to 12 reform programs, however, I suddenly realized that we had

overlooked a major gap in the system.

A Senior High School student has to undergo work immersion in a business

organization/establishment whose work requirements are related to their

specialization. Through this work immersion, the students are exposed to and become

familiarized with work-related environment related to their field of specialization. “Work

Immersion is a key feature in the senior high school curriculum. It can be conducted in

different ways depending on the purposes and needs of the learners,” Education

Secretary Leonor Brionoes said.

9
The guidelines said work immersion – which can range from 80 to 320 hours – will

enable students to become familiar with the workplace, experience workplace

simulation and apply their competencies in areas of specialization.

10
OBJECTIVES

Work immersion enables learners to become familiar with the workplace, simulate

work, and apply their competencies in authentic work environments. The program

aims to help develop life and career skills and prepare learners to decide regarding

post-secondary education or employment. To achieve greater congruence between

education and the nation’s development targets, Work Immersion, a required subject,

has been incorporated into the curriculum. This subject will provide learners with

opportunities:

 To become familiar with the work place;

 For employment simulation; and

 To apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in

authentic work environments.

To achieve the above objectives, Work Immersion is thus a requirement for

graduation from secondary education. Learners are immersed in actual work

environments such as workshops offices and laboratories in which their prior

training is relevant.

These guidelines were formulated based on the rich experiences of

modelling schools, tech-voc schools, partnership focal persons, industry

partners, and youth development advocates. These guidelines can provide

process support to field offices of the Department of Education (DepEd) in

fostering relationships and strengthening partnerships so that learners will have

access to suitable work immersion venues and other related resources.

11
VALUES AND ATTRIBUTES
GOOD
HARDWORKING
DEPENDABLE
ADAPTABLE
COMMUNICATORS

Student-trainees should be characterized by the following value and attributes

in their respective workplace:

Change is inevitable, especially when it comes to business.

Organizations often need to offer new products or ideas to keep them marketable.

Because of this trend, they need employees who can easily adapt to change,

someone who can keep abreast with the current trends.

Superiors are eyeing for someone whom they can rely on a person to

whom they can delegate responsibilities, thus making sure that the operations in the

office are carried out properly even in their absence. In fact, in a survey conducted, it

was revealed that dependability is the best qualification that employers are looking for

in an employee.

Employers will look for someone who can express themselves clearly

both in written and oral communication. Proper communication skills will lessen

common company problems in the workplace like miscommunication and

misunderstanding among employees or between a superior and his subordinate.

Hardworking employees are partners of an organization in reaching its

goals. They are the “army” that keeps the company moving forward an employee.

12
PASSIONATE
ORGANIZED
PUNCTUAL
PROFESSIONAL/ETHICAL
HONEST

Talented employees are assets to the company. However, companies

give more weight to honesty and integrity more than anything else. Honesty comes in

different forms; honesty in declaring entries in the daily time record; honesty in the use

of office supplies; honesty in performing tasks when the superiors are not around, and

many more.

Part of the work in any establishment is to keep records and data at

hand; thus, they are looking for someone who is organized, someone who can easily

locate files and can present data.

A person who loves what he is doing in positive, enthusiastic in carrying

out his tasks, and seldom gets tired or experiences burnout. Companies need these

types of employees, those who keep on doing their work with excellence because

they are passionate about it.

Rules are set in the office to make sure that not only work is carried out

properly but the harmonious relationships among employees are also maintained.

Employers would want someone who follows company policies and exudes

professionalism, thus serving as a good example to others.

Time is very important in the workplace. Every second counts.

Employers look for someone who values time because they relate punctuality to

productivity and productivity is equated to success. A punctual employee reports

13
TEAM PLAYER

to work on time; submits reports even prior to deadline, and accomplishes things

within the given schedule.

Most companies work in teams. Goals are achieved by team effort. An

employer will look for someone who can work in a team and can encourage team

members to achieve their goals.

COMPANY HISTORY
PROFILE
THE WORKPLACE

SNDPA-LPH – is a non-sectarian school established for boys and girls

which aims to develop discipline, competitive, and well-rounded learners.

Sto. Niño De Praga Academy had its humble beginning in the year 1998

with Holy Infant Learning Camp as its first name. The owner’s initial plan is to open a

tutorial center for pre-school with its vision of serving the community. But on the same

year, Holy Infant Learning Camp was disapproved by DTI and within the year, the

name Holy Infant was changed to Sto. Niño De Praga Academy to offer complete

elementary course patterned to the name of its school’s advocate.

It started (1998) when Dr. Wilma Ulep Galicia rented one housing

unit to served as classroom for pre school pupils in La Paz Homes II, Trece MartireS

City. Its objective is to provide quality education with affordable tuition fee for children

living within the vicinity. It started with nine (9) pupils and only Dr. Galicia as the sole

teacher. On its second year of operation, the school added Grades one and two on its

curriculum and increased the population to seventy-eight (78). To cater the fast

growing number of pupils, the owner rented another two units that are adjacent to the

first unit and hired 3 teachers to handle the additional level in elementary.

15
A non-setarian school with Catholic orientation, SNDPA gives emphasis on value

orientation. With its objective of giving quality education to the pupils, Dr. Galicia

asked the assistance of her mother Mrs. Corazon R. Ulep to assist in the operation of

the school.

On its continuous serving to the community , the school has been living to its

vision and mission of developing pupils as well-rounded and competitive children by

giving quality education with affordable tuition fee.

In the year 2005, SNDPA achieved its depEd Recognition for pre-school and

elementary level. The owner acquired its first 200 square meter lot where the one

story building was constructed. Prior to this year, the school offered complete

elementary level.

In the year 2007, SNDPA opened its door for high school students by offering

first and second year courses and gradually increase the level offering until 2009-

2010 with complete high school level.

These things mentioned would not have been possible and credible without the

perseverance of SNDPA’s ever dynamic and compelling school principal, Dr. Wilma

Galicia with the help of her dedicated and competitive teachers and staff. IN the year

2008 the school was granted its High School Recognition with Government

Recognition no. 23 S. 2008

16
In year 2016, the school offers the Senior High School with a curriculum that

integrates the technical vocational subjects.

As the school continues to live on its vision and mission, it continuously

developed until it completed the 1000 square meter lot with three-storey building to

cater the Kinder to Grade 12 students.

The school will continuously develop and improve the school to offer the best

service to its learners.

Our school had proven the offered quality education with the following

achievements:

1. Produced several students who topped in the TMCNHS-Science High School

and in the University of the Philippines.

2. Received numerous awards in the field of academics.

3. Ranked fifth among the seventeen (17) schools in Trece Martires City in the

2005 First Inter-Private School Sports Fest, in 2006 it ranked fourth and last

September, 2007 it ranked as third out of 22 private schools.

4. Also known to be the home of the multi-talented and excellent pupils in the field

of writing and discipline. The SNDPA system of writing is highly recognized in

the district of Trece Martires City.

17
5. Champion in various sports and skills competition such as sepak takraw,

volleyball for both elementary and high school division, Tower of Hanoi,

Rubiks, Singing, and Dancing.

6. Produced players in volleyball to higher meet such as WCSU, STCAA and

Palarong Pambansa.

7. Winners in different academic competitions such as spelling bee, Math,

Histoquiz, Declamation, Oration and Poem.

8. Eight Peat Champion in Volleyball Women’s Division High School.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
RECOMMEDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
REFLECTION

In conducting this Work Immersion Program of course we’ve encountered

some problems. Such as when the internet connection lost and I need to do my

paper works, also time management is a difficult for Learners, as online classes

require a lot of time and intensive work

There’s always a second chance. Even though you’ve made a mistake

if ever in a certain workplace, just shake it off and make sure to work even

better. Double the effort you’ve always used to do. Always come early to your

workplace because it is a moral obligation that an employee/trainee should

do. Don’t worry when things get rough, its normal. You just have to go with

the flow and find a solution to the problem you were facing. Think that this

opportunity you have to experience working is a blessing because it will

strengthen the foundation you have within yourself. Not every student were

given the opportunity to experience something like what we had.

28
