(Module Description & Session Objectives)

Course Tittle: Team Sports

Pre-requisite: P.E. 3

Course Description:
This course is designed to provide learning experiences that will lead to the development of
basic skill in team sports. The course focuses on how to plan and implement the four stages of skills
development in games through the use of extending, refining and application tasks. An emphasis will
be placed on the use of game stages and movement framework as a guide for designing a variety of
sport game experience for tertiary students.
Students will be expected to achieve an intermediate level of skill in the selected team
sports. Practice outside of class time and individual tutoring may be necessary to achieve the
expected performance level.

Content:
This course enhances physical fitness and athletic skills and develop interest in sports,
lifetime fitness, and the competitive spirit that is inherent. Knowledge of sports concepts are
important tools in the development and continuation of an attitude of health and lifetime fitness.

General Course Objectives:


By the end of the course, the students should be able to:
a) Develop skills and fitness specific to particular sports
b) Appreciate and be able to execute strategic play in sports
c) Participate at a level appropriate to their stage of development
d) Share in the planning and administration of sport experiences
e) Provide responsible leadership
f) Work effectively within the group towards common goals
g) Appreciate the rituals and conventions the give particular sports their unique meanings
h) Develop the capacity to make reasoned decisions about sport issues
i) Develop and apply knowledge about umpiring, refereeing and training
