DISASTER PREPAREDNESS BAG

Water can help you survive for

weeks so it should be the first
on your list. It will be the
heaviest item on your bag but
it is very important for you and
your family.

NON-PERISHABLE FOODS

Emergency food must contain

non-perishable items such as
canned goods, noodles, energy
bars, biscuits, cereals, etc.
Check the expiration date of
the items and pick the ones
that will expire at a much
later date.
Secure copies of essential documents

PHOTOCOPIES OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS such as passport, license, identification

AND IDENTIFICATION CARD cards, birth, marriage certificates and

land titles in your bag. Photocopies of
these documents will spare you from all
the hassle of renewing lost papers and
proving identity when the disaster is
over. Remember to store these in
waterproof pouches to keep them dry.

FIRST AID/MEDICINE KIT

A first aid kit is a must-have in the disaster

preparedness kit. It should contain the following:
medicines, disposable gloves, alcohol, cotton,
Band-Aids, bandage, antiseptic swab, scissors,
and personal medication. Stock your first aid kit
well and customize it by adding your
prescription medicines. I consider holy bible and
rosary as first aid and medicine kit because no
matter where you are at in life, turn to God
and ask for help and guidance.

HYGIENE KIT
In the absence of showers during times
of disaster, maintaining sanitation is
important to prevent diseases. Your
hygiene kit should include a wet wipes,
alcohol, toothbrush, tooth paste,
shampoo, soap, ear buds, sanitary
napkin, underwear, detergent soap and
insect repellent.

EMERGENCY FLASHLIGHT, WHISTLE,

AND BATTERIES
Having a heavy-duty flashlight that can last for
hours is important when power is out during
calamities. Make sure the batteries are new or
rechargeable and you have extras in your bag.
Another essential item in your kit is the
emergency whistle. This will come in handy
during emergency situations. Blowing the
whistle is one of the best ways to call out for
help and get people’s attention.

RAINCOAT AND BLANKET

Packing a raincoat and
lightweight blanket is optional
but it can prove to be useful
especially in your family. You
may turn these into a bed or a
material to ward off cold
depending on the need.

Ensure at least one change of

clothing packed in that can last up
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIALS to three or four days. Spoon and
fork for the food and cellphone for
you to communicate with your
family and friends and also for
emergency purposes.

Last important thing to prepare

EXTRA MONEY is extra cash sealed in a

waterproof wallet. Having
money stashed for emergencies
is a good way to prepare for
unforeseen circumstances.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS BAG

Disaster preparedness refers to the preventive measures taken to

reduce the severity of a disaster’s effects. The goal of disaster
preparedness is to lessen the impact of disasters on vulnerable populations,
to ready an organization for an influx of activity, and to design a
coordinated plan that reduces the waste of resources, time, and efforts.
Disaster preparedness has the potential save the maximum number of lives
and property during a disaster, and it aims to return the affected
populations to normalcy as quickly as possible. An important facet to
Family safety is having a plan and being prepared in case an emergency
strikes. Preparing yourself and your family for all types of emergencies is
very important. So you can increase your personal sense of security and
peace of mind and to know you will be ready in case of an emergency.
When an emergency strikes, knowing what to do can save time, property
and most of all, lives. The three main priorities to emergency preparedness
are getting an emergency preparedness kit, making a plan, and being
informed.

The most important thing is that you are prepared mentally,

emotionally and physically for any unforeseen disasters. Moreover, having
an emergency kit ready is one of the things that you can do to prepare
for disasters. If you are living in a disaster-prone area, prepare on what
to do and how to respond to it. Preparation is one of the keys to
survival, but more so, the presence of mind and timely response is also
essential to protect yourself and your loved ones.
