SOP on Pest Control

1.0 Objective : This SOP describes a procedure for pest control. 

2.0 Scope : This SOP applies to control the invasion of pests in the manufacturing area.

3.0 Responsibility : Production Supervisor to ensure that the procedure is followed.

4.0 Materials & Equipment : 

1. Insectocuters

2. Baits

3. Fumigating agents

5.0 Procedure: 

The building used in the manufacture, processing, packing or holding of a drug product

shall be free of infestation by rodents, birds, insects and other vermin. The use of suitable

rodenticides, insecticides, fungicides, fumigating agents and cleaning & sanitizing agents

should be combined with good hygienic practices.

Insectocutors are provided and there should be frequent examination and removal of

“corpses” which could in time become a source of further contamination.

Frequently rodenticides and other treatments are contracted out.


For rats: keep the baits at various places and change every 15 days.

For flies: Mop the area every day with an antiseptic solution and keep the area clean.

Cockroaches, mosquitoes & other insects: Spray baygon solution in all the areas.
