OVERVIEW OF THE TOPIC
Swing is the most popular social dance for couples in the USA in the 1950’s. It is an
outgrowth of Jitterbug. Swing is the newest name given for Jitterbug. Although this type of
dancing is very popular among the youth, the gaiety of the music appeals to all ages. Swing steps
pattern lend to varied interpretation. Partners hold both hands and do the quick steps followed by
placing weight on the ball of one foot the shifting the weight to the other. It is characterized by
frequent turns and intricate variations along side with good sense of rhythm, poise, grace and
confidence. This is a very lively ballroom dance.

Directions: Read, analyze, interpret and execute correctly the sample ballroom dance steps

Directions: Read and answers the following questions
1. What are the different ballroom dance steps and holds presented in each variation of
“Swing”?
The dance steps that are present in the social dance swing are the following:
Butterfly Position, Varsovienne Position, Swing Out Position, Step Left Foot
Backward, Step Right Foot Backward, Step Right foot In Place, Step Right Foot
Forward, Step Left Foot In Place, El Bimbo Position, and Facing Position.
2. Do you have difficulty in performing the dance steps? Why?
Yes, because compared to the previous dances, it is more difficult and really need
to practice.
3. Did you execute the different variations with grace and precision?
I’m not really sure about that but I know that I did give my best, I did exert an
effort to execute the steps.

Directions: Group Activity. Create additional variations combining the given routine. Use
different dance hold for aesthetic value.
