Hansel and Gretel Role-play Level 3

Cast

Narrator 1 Aunt Father Witch

Narrator 2 Hansel Gretel

Work with the children to allocate characters and prepare a short performance. Discuss the
stage directions in advance and make sure the children understand how to follow the script.

Narrator 1: Hansel and Gretel lived with their father and aunt in a
little house near a forest.

Narrator 2: Their father cut wood to get money, but he was very
poor. They were all very hungry.

Father: There is no more money. There is no more food for us


to eat.

Aunt: Then Hansel and Gretel cannot live here. We must leave
them in the forest.

Father: No. We can’t do that.

Aunt: But we must do it.

Narrator 1: Hansel and Gretel were in their bedroom, but they


heard everything.

Hansel: I have an idea.

Narrator 2: He went outside to get some stones.

Narrator 1: The next day, they all went into the forest.
Hansel put the stones on the path.

Father: Wait here. We want to get some wood.

Narrator 2: Hansel and Gretel waited all day. Then, they found all
the stones on the path and walked home.

Narrator 1: Hansel and Gretel’s father was happy to see them, but
their aunt was very angry.

Aunt: There isn’t enough food for all of us. We must take
Hansel and Gretel back into the forest.

Father: No! I don’t want to do that.

Aunt: We have to do it. This time, they mustn’t come home.

Narrator 2: Hansel and Gretel’s aunt closed the door and used the
key. Hansel and Gretel couldn’t get out of the house.
Hansel couldn’t find any stones.

Narrator 1: The next day, they all went back into the forest.
This time, Hansel left some bread on the path.

Father: Wait here. We want to get some wood.

Narrator 2: Hansel and Gretel waited all day. Then, they looked for
the bread on the path.

Narrator 1: But there was no bread.

Gretel: The birds ate it.

Narrator 2: Hansel and Gretel couldn’t get home.

Narrator 1: Hansel and Gretel went into the forest. They walked for
many hours.

Narrator 2: In the middle of the forest, they found a house made of


candies and cake. They wanted to eat it.

Narrator 1: A witch lived in the house made of candies and cake.


She wanted to eat Hansel and Gretel.

Narrator 2: She put Hansel in a cage, and gave him lots of food.

Witch: I want him to get fat. Then, I want to cook him in my


fire, and eat him.

Gretel: Where is your fire?

Witch: Here.

Narrator 1: She showed the oven to Gretel.

Gretel: I can’t see the fire.

Narrator 2: The witch opened the oven door.

Gretel: No, I can’t see the fire.

Narrator 1: The witch opened the oven door as much as she could.
Gretel pushed her into the oven, and closed the door!
