Active Video Games Helps some Kids Get Active

By Jennifer Warner

"Active Games Helps Some Kids Get Active" is an article written by Jennifer Warner
and reviewed by Luis Chang of WebMD Health News. The said article contains
about various researchers claiming the effectiveness of active video games in
helping children engage in more physical activities. Some researcher say that so
called "exergames" was played by nearly three-fourths (73%) children in a moderate
to vigorous level of physical intensity that would count towards meeting the
recommended physical activity guidelines. After various study was done, the results
suggest that active video games may have a unique role in the battle against rising
childhood obesity rates, stated, “Lack of school-based exergaming may represent a
missed opportunity to introduce young people to another form of [physical activity]
The feasibility of exergaming in community centers or at school needs to be tested,
and research on the sustainability of exergaming is warranted.”

I was fascinated with the information I discovered after reading the article. I didn't
know such thing like "exergames" exist. Some research study mentioned in the
article are unfamiliar, especially with the result that girls are those who engaged in
more active video games rather than boys. I even realized that video games and
other technological tools doesn't merely promote sedentary lifestyle but rather an
alternative way in engaging into another form of physical activities.

Even though exergames and active video games seems relevant and convenient to
perform nowadays. Kids must engage themselves into physical activities and
physical interactions with family and friends. Virtual activities may be prevalent but
the idea of reconnecting children out of reality might only bring destructions and
confusion. Life must be balanced between the physical world and the virtual method.
Therefore, parents must guide their children especially in engaging to active physical
activities might it be done traditionally or in virtual. There's nothing wrong of letting
kids enjoy another form of physical activities but we must bare in mind that
everything must be balanced and done in moderation.
