Mushroom with Big hat

Knitting pattern by Julia Pankova

Ready toy size is 11 см


You will need:
• Needles: A set of a 5 double pointed (socks) needles 2,5 mm

• Yarn: Yarn by your choice, I used Lama premium acrylic 50 gr/130 m for the foot and
Drops Alpaca 50gr/ 167 m (double thread) for the hat

• Soft filling

• Sewing needle for knitted staff


General abbreviations
St/sts – stitch/ stitches
K – knit
P – purl
Inc – increase
Dec – decrease
RH/ LH – right hand/ left hand
RS/ WS – right side/ wrong side
K2tog/ K3tog – knit two stitches together/ knit three stitches together
P2tog/ P3tog – purl two stitches together/ purl three stitches together
Kfb – knit into front, then into back of stitch to increase by one
Pfb – purl into front, then into back of stitch to increase by one (see
attached video)
Skpo – slip one stitch, knit next stitch, pass slipped stitch over knit
stitch to decrease by one
PM – place marker

This toy is knitting by one piece.

Start knitting from the base:
Row 1. Cast on 6 sts and arrange them on a 3 needles = 6 sts

Row 2. Inc) Kfb 6 sts = 12 sts

Row 3. Inc) (Kfb, K1) * 6 times = 18 sts.

Row 4. Inc) (K2, Kfb) * 6 times = 24 sts

Row 5-10. PM Knit 24 sts

Row 11. Dec) (K3tog, K2)* 2 times, (K2tog, K2) * 2 times, K3tog,

K3 = 16 sts

Row 12-18. Knit 16 sts

Row 19. Dec) K6, K3tog, K3, K3tog, K = 12 sts

Row 20-22. Knit 12 sts

Stuff the toy with soft filling

Row 23. Dec) (K1, K3tog) * 3 times = 6 sts

Row 24-25. Knit 6 sts

Start the hat knitting:

Row 26. Inc) Kfb 6 sts = 12 sts

Row 27. Inc) Kfb 12 sts = 24 sts

Row 28-29. Knit 24 sts

Row 30. Inc) (K2, Kfb) * 8 times = 32 sts

Row 31. Knit 32 sts

Changing to another yarn (cut the base thread, leaving about 5-7
cm (pic.1), so you can tie an edges (pic.2).

Row 33. Pfb * 32 sts = 64 sts

Row 34. Purl 64 sts

Row 35-40. Knit 64 sts

Sew the hat to the base (pic.3, 4)

Row 41. Dec) (Skpo, K2) * 16 times = 48 sts

Row 42-43. Knit 48 sts

Row 44. Dec) (K1, Skpo) * 16 times = 32 sts

Row 45-46. Knit 32 sts

Row 47. Dec) (K1, Skpo) * 10 times, K2 = 22 sts

Row 48-49. Knit 22 sts

Row 50. Dec) Skpo * 11 times = 11 sts

Staff the hat with soft filling))

Row 51. Knit 11 sts

Row 52. Dec) Skpo * 2 times, K3tog, Skpo * 2 times = 5 sts

Cut the thread and pull the end trough 5 sts to close and secure

Hands (the same knitting for both):


Row 1. Cast on 6 sts

Row 2-5. Knit on the RS and Purl on the WS 6 sts

Cut the thread and pull the end trough 6 sts to close. Then sew
from the side (pic.7, 8)

Sew the hands on the base. Put on the eyes. Embroider grass
on the base and mouth if you wish)))

• Needles: A set of a 5 double pointed (socks) needles 2,5 mm

• Yarn: Yarn by your choice, I used Lama premium acrylic 50 gr/130 m for the foot and
thick woolen yarn (for needles 4-5 mm) for hat

• Soft filling

• Sewing needle for knitted staff

Start knitting from the base:
Row 1. Cast on 6 sts and arrange them on a 3 needles = 6 sts

Row 2. Inc) Kfb 6 sts = 12 sts

Row 3. Inc) (Kfb, K1) * 6 times = 18 sts
