II. BRIEF CONTEXT/PERSPECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY
Part 1
For the few years that had passed and with all the challenges that we have experienced
during the COVID-19 pandemic, we should have already learned so much. At the beginning,
many Filipinos are immensely hesitant and afraid of getting vaccinated due to their own
prejudices and misconceptions about the vaccines. In fact, according to the World Bank
Group in their survey experiment on the vaccine hesitancy in the Philippines, they have
found out that many Filipinos are hesitant, unwilling, and unsure of getting vaccinated, and
this is mainly due to lack of proper information dissemination.
Many did not want to participate and cooperate in mitigating and minimizing this global
issue before. But now, at the present time, many are already persuaded and have taken their
vaccines. In fact, 57.2% of the population in the Philippines have already been fully
vaccinated, many have taken already their first dose, and some are taking their booster
shots. More to this also, vaccination to various age demography have already begun in our
country. And I firmly believe that this phase should not stop but rather, must be continue
extensively and vigorously.
In our community, vaccination of children from age 5 to 11 years old had freshly
started. I have observed that many of these children are hesitant of getting vaccinated. And
this is somehow alarming. I believe that, just like how adults and young adults where
immensely encourage, the same should happen to children. According to Department of
Health, 69.2% of the COVID cases within the pediatric group are form ages 0 to 11 years old.
With this data, children should be given enough attention and immense encouragement
towards COVID-19 vaccination.
Part 2
I believe that just like with findings on the survey of the World Bank Group, there is a
growing hesitance of children in getting vaccinated due to lack of adequate information
dissemination. Many of these children do not have enough learning materials that would aid
them to better understand the facts and truths about the vaccines as well as on its
significance and importance in mitigating our current situation at the present time. And this
lack of information dissemination leads to inadequate boost that would encourage these
children to get vaccinated.
I really feel that this is really alarming, and there is the need and urgency to address
this issue among young learners. For over two years of no face-to-face classes, I believe that
this is long enough to the point that it can affect and disrupt the learning experience of the
students, most especially of the young learners. This pandemic had already become a
barricade and burden to their education and having the hesitancy of these children with
getting vaccinated becomes another issue, and we should not let that happen. I believe that
we must act and take mitigation mechanisms in order to encourage these children and lead
them to become educated about the facts and information on COVID-19 pandemic.
Here, we can realize and discover how vital and significant information dissemination as
well as the literacy on COVID-19 pandemic not just for the children but also, the other people
of various ages and demography. From this also, we can realize the adequate and vigorous
mitigating measures that we can do the next time that we will encounter the same issues and
problems in the upcoming futures.
Part 3
This is the project, the activities, as well as the solutions I can think of as it is timely
and relevant not just within our community but most especially within our country. More so,
education as well as the knowledge on COVID-19 pandemic is vital especially to young
learners as they are also being one of the affected individuals during this time. It is really
vital that we educate people as it become an initial protection and way to mitigate and
minimize higher chances to risks to hazards that poses threat to our lives.
With this, I commit to enable students and give them the opportunity in learning,
understanding, and comprehending the significance and importance of vaccination. In that
way, it can also address the issues on their misconceptions about the various vaccines that
we have and rectify or correct those misconception in consonance to the truths and facts
about the COVID-19 vaccines. I will also commit to encourage them and boost their interest
in getting vaccinated through the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC)
materials.
In this way, I can also aid in addressing growing public health concern, information
disseminations issues, and vaccination hesitancy among young learners, children, and
maybe those people above this age demography. More also, through this IEC materials,
learning can become more fun, and more appealing to children as these IEC materials would
entail creativity. I will commit that this IEC materials would become a mitigating way that
would fuse the science and art together as the tool in addressing the growing concern among
children.
Part 4
In this project, it will mainly focus in rectifying the misconceptions of young learners
about vaccines, as well as letting them learn and understand the importance of getting
vaccinated, and most importantly of getting encourage to become vaccinated. Here
Information, Education, and Communication materials would be created about the facts and
truths on COVID-19 pandemic as well as on the vaccines through the data that will be
gathered from credible government, organization, and reliable individuals as the sources.
More to this, these created IEC materials will be emailed to school-teachers and will be used
by them as supplementary learning materials for their students.
The beneficiaries of this project would be the students of the PC Hill Elementary School in
Cotabato City. This school is close to my heart as I have experience once becoming a
catechist to their students. I believe that through this IEC materials, it would become my
extending hand to them even though I am not physically there.
In this project, my partners in preparing and implementing the set of activities would be
my siter and some teachers at the said school. They will be the one to help me in
materializing this project as well as in extending also a helping hand to these children and
young learners to meet the gaps that they have with regards to COVID-19 pandemic facts
and truths.
