BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Finishing is the heart of textile processing. On the outside, clothing
project might look fantastic, but if you really want to have a garment that

3
looks professionally tailored, you need to do some finishing touches.
Garment finishing consist of a series of finishing operations perform to
improve aesthetic, handle an professional properties. It makes the garments
attractive, comfortable, and finishing can incorporate desirable properties.

Steps in Finishing the Facing

1.Press the facing
2.Overcast the facing.

Steps in Attaching Buttons

1.Determine and mark the location of the buttons in the opening of
neckline.
2.Thread the needle.
3.Put a pin on top of the buttons while attaching the buttons.
3.Remove the pin and pull the buttons with the thread and make a
knot on the wrong side of the cloth.

Steps in Attaching Hook-and-eye

1.Place the hook -and eye on the upper part of the opening.
2.Put the hook-and -eye in line with the neckline opening.
3.Sew the eye in position with an overcast stitch. Find the correct
position of the hook and sew it with an overcast stitch.
4.Sew every end of the hook down so that the opening will be flat.

Hemming gives the fabric a finished clean edge and helps clothes
last longer by preventing unraveling.

Two ways to sew a hem:

1. by hand sewing
2. by sewing machine

Sewing the Hem

Decide how you will sew your hem.

Fold your hem. Layout your clothing on a

countertop pattern-side down, with the
hem/edge in front of you. Fold the fabric
edge up to 5/8inch and use an iron to
flatten it out. Then starting from the edge,
create a second fold over the first 5/8inch
wide, so that the raw edge of the first fold is
hidden under the second fold.

4
Pin the hem in place. Use multiple straight
pins to secure this fold. Insert the pins so
that the blunt and sticks out of the hem,
while thee needle end of the pin is inserted
towards the fabric. This will make them
much easier to remove as you sew. (if you
are using a sewing machine.)

Sew your hem. Either with your sewing

machine or by hand, use a matching thread
to your fabric and sew a straight stitch
along the top edge of the fold. Work all the
way around until you’ve sewn the whole
hem and then tie off and cut your thread.

Iron the hem. To finish off your hem, you

need to iron it so it lays down flat. If your
fabric can handle it, use a bit of steam to
help with the ironing process. When you’re
done, turn your fabric right-side-out.

Press Finished Ladies’ Blouse

Direction: Read and analyze the steps in pressing ladies’ blouse.
Procedure:
1. Set up the ironing board so that
you have plenty of room to work on
all sides of it .Plug in the iron, and
adjust it to the fabric setting, if the
garment you’re ironing is made of
cotton mixed with other fibers , it
should probably be ironed on medium
heat , always check the garment
labeling if in doubt.
2. Stretch the garment flat across the ironing board, smoothing out as
many wrinkles with your hand as possible. This helps keep you
from actually ironing wrinkles into the item instead of out of it.
3. Start ironing from the collar or neck if you’ve ironing a blouse or
shirt or from the waist if you’re pressing pants. Whether you start
at the collar or the bottom to iron a dress is purely a matter of
personal preference.

5
4. Pay careful attention on how the garment is shaped or stitched
together, and run the iron smoothly over one portion or panel of
the garment at a time.
5. Keep the iron in constant motion when it’s in contact with cotton
clothing. You don’t have to move it very fast, but if you allow the
iron to sit or rest on the cotton for any length of time it may
produce a permanent scorch mark.
6. Hang the garment immediately after you finish pressing it. Make
sure to fasten all closures-buttons, zippers and hooks and loop
fasteners-to help ensure that the garment maintains its proper
shape while hanging.

container that carries a

Types of Packing Materials

1. Wood cases and crates are generally used as packing materials for
bulk exports or rugged shipments where shipments handling is
higher.

6
2. Paper and plastic film packing materials are used in the garment and
