DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
C. MOTIVATION “Last meeting you learned the meaning of
cause and effect. And now, let us move on to
our new lesson. Sit up straight and watch this
video because I have some questions later.

(The teacher will play the video.)

So, now class what is the video all about?

The video is all about flood and how it

happens.
Very Good! According to the video what
causes flood?

According to the video, flood happens

due to heavy rain, breaking of dams,
strong wind, tropical cyclone or
typhoon, and melting of snow which is
applicable only to other countries.
Excellent!

D. Presentation: According to your Science lessons, what are

the other possible causes of flood? Other possible causes of flood are
kaingin and illegal logging.

As a student, what will you do to prevent

flood? As a student, I can prevent flood by
planting of trees and avoid illegal
logging and kaingin.

E. Discussion The teacher will post a chart on the board.

CAUSE EFFECT
1. Illegal logging
2. Heavy rainfalls,
typhoon and Flood
strong winds
3. Breaking of dam
4. Overflowing
river

“Since, we already know the meaning of cause

and effect.” Let us talk about the orders of the
two. When we speak about the sequence by
these two take place, the cause always
happens first while the effect happens next.”

“However, when they are written as parts of

sentences, that order by which they appear
may not be according to what happened first
or next as shown in the examples heres”

The teacher will post a tarpapel on the board.

Examples: cause
1. A heavy rain lasted for two hours,
so the streets were flooded.
Effect
Effect
2. The streets were flooded
because the heavy rain lasted for two
hours.
Cause
To properly connect the relationships,
transitional words such as because, if, so,
thus, consequently, therefore, due to the
fact, since, as a result of, the reason for,
nevertheless, lead to, and caused by, are
used in the paragraph.

Let us go back to our examples, who want to

go to the board and underline the transitional
words used in the paragraph. Examples:
A heavy rain lasted for two hours, so
The pupils will raise their hands. the streets were flooded.

the board and encircle the transitional words.”

The teacher will write another example on the

board.

1. Due to lack of Vitamin A, Karen has

poor eyesight.

“Once you master identifying the cause-and -

effect relationship, you can already begin
writing cause-and- effect relationship in
sentences and paragraphs.”

“Writing a cause-and-effect paragraph

involves understanding the logic or connection
between cause and effect.
It requires a knowledge of the expressions and
vocabulary used to express cause and effects.
Cause and effect transitions are important
components of writing”

Examples:
1. Ocean’s delicate coral reefs are
affected by changes caused by
humans. To illustrate, dumping waste
products and garbage in sea results in
changes in the natural environment.
(CAUSE) Due to changes the ocean
becomes polluted, and as a
consequence,
coral reefs are damaged. (EFFECT)
When the ocean becomes
extensively, polluted, (CAUSE)
coral reefs die. (EFFECT)

Values Infusion:

Remember that cause-and-effect is like

making decisions in life as a student, you have
to be careful with your own action because
whatever it is will be the effect in your life.
So, think twice before making any decisions.

F. APPLICATION “Now that you already know how to write a

paragraph using the cause and effect
relationship, I have here a task for you this
will be a group activity. I will group you into
four, each group should have one
