1.
Is this project considered to be a 'problem' that needs solving or an 'opportunity' that could be
exploited?
It is an opportunity for Curtin to generate income and make use of underutilised space.
2. Clearly define this 'problem' or 'opportunity'
Curtin pool is going to be an indoor recreational pool where the members enjoy and relax all
year-round. Curtin can yield certain income while giving convenient facilities to the members
such as this.
3. What are the desired outcome(s)/benefit(s) of your project?
Utilization of space
Recreational space for members to enjoy and relax
Generation of income
4. What is the relevance of this project to Curtin University?
Swimming can be an integral of campus events. Uni can bring together interested
students over a swimming gala or competition
Indoor pool will add value and desirability to the property
1. Business problem/Need
As part of the Space Activation Project, establishing an Indoor Swimming Pool in the campus is
an ideal recreational replacement for the unused space. An indoor swimming pool opens the
door for recreational opportunities. An indoor pool can allow every Curtin Member to enjoy
water activities throughout the year without worrying about the weather outside. It can also act
as a place where students can relax and relieve their stress. For those interested in swimming
can avail the pool without having to travel outside the campus.
2. Summary of proposed solution
Our proposed approach is to open an Indoor Swimming pool. Curtin cohort can use this as a
recreational space to enjoy and relax. It can also act as a workout space since it allows anyone to
simply jump in for regular exercise and refresh themselves. Curtin Uni can also generate some
income while rendering such amenity.
3. Anticipated Benefits
There are several benefits of having an indoor pool:
Indoor pool is accessible all year round
Swimming can provide relief for many kinds of physical problems and mental stress
Indoor pool provides privacy and shelter
Unlike outdoor pools which are exposed to direct sunlight, it doesn’t require much
chlorination and uses of less chemicals
Members need not travel outside of the campus for swimming
Since the entry fee is going to be cheaper compared to the business outside of the
campus, Members can save money
4. Impact of not doing it
One less recreational space
Swimming is not just an exercise or sport but a life saving skill. So we will miss out on
growing that skill
Members interested in swimming will have to spend and travel away from the campus
5. Organizational Impact
University can generate some income out of it
May attract new students considering campus amenities
