Course Objectives:

 Understand the process of creating a live show and taking it on the road
 Define common live entertainment industry terminology
 Develop a basic understanding of live production technology elements
 Visit a professional level venue
 Discover career and freelance opportunities related to live production

Assignments:

 Concert Design Concept


o Choose a band or musical artist and develop a design concept for a live performance.
Think about what you want the stage to look like and what mood or feel you want to
convey to the audience. What is the music genre and how many people are on stage?
Pull 5 research images and write a brief paragraph describing your design ideas.
 Honeywell Center Visit Reflection
o Write a reflection paper after our visit to the Honeywell Center. You may also access
the Honeywell Center website for information. Please use the questions below as
prompts.
 What are some differences and similarities between the Ford Theatre and
Eagles Theatre spaces?
 What types of concerts and events would be ideal in each venue?
 What staff members did you meet and what are their roles?
 Besides live entertainment, what other services does the Honeywell Center
offer?
 Describe some of the venue features and technology installed.
 How does the geographical location of the Honeywell Center impact bookings?
 Looking at the upcoming schedule what is one performance you would be
interested in attending? Why?

 Production/ Touring Career Profile


o Research one job within the live entertainment industry that you are interested in and
write a 1–2-page description and analysis. Be sure to include details about the position,
what experience/ education you need, and why you are drawn to it. Details such as
work schedule, salary, travel requirements, or advancement opportunities would also
be good to include.
