1. Work/Study

1.What do you study?

-I’m studying energy project in Soochow University right now.
2. Do you sometimes feel that you must study too hard?
Yes. You know, everybody around me works very hard, because in China there are so
many students but there are only a few chances for us to find a job, so most people around
me endeavor to prepare for the postgraduate entrance exams.
3. What do you like to do just after you finish class every day?
In most cases, I would like to do my own things after finishing class, like playing
basketball with my classmates or just staying in the dorm to play some video games.
4. Where do you study?
Mostly, i study at the school library.
5. Is it a good place to study?
Of course. Since it’s a silent place where i can bury my head in my book with full
attention. And the temperature there is always perfect.
6. Would you like the place where you study to make any changes?
Well, to be honest, it has been already good enough for me. But if i have to say
something, i would say, it will be better if there would be a coffee shop available.

2. Where you live

1.Where are you living at the moment?

-I am living in an apartment in Nantong with my parents at the moment.
2. What do you like about the area you're living in?
First of all, our apartment is located in the city center, so there are a number shopping
malls and such entertainment facilities nearby. It’s convenient for me to go to such places.
And secondly, the transportation is quite good, there is a bus stop just in front my community
with several bus lines. It’s quite easy to travel around.
3. Do you know many other people who live nearby?
Actually I am not so familiar with people live nearby, because my parents often work
during the day, so there are not so many chances for us to meet with our neighbors.
4. How long have you lived in.../your area?
I have lived there since i was born. My family never moved house.
5. Do people of all ages live in your area?
Yeah, our community is a good place for people of all ages to live. Lanes are surrounded
by trees and flowers, so the whole environment is fantastic. And there is no doubt that it’s a
perfect place for people of all ages.
6. Is the area where you live a friendly place?
Yeah i think so. Although i rarely got a chance to meet my neighbors, we would smile to
each other when we meet each other.

3.Birthday
1.What do you normally do on your birthday?
I personally prefer to celebrate my birthday with my friends. In most cases, I would like
to throw a party at a restaurant and invite all my close friends to come over. We eat dinner
and cakes together. Afterwards, we might go to a karaoke and enjoy the rest of the night
there.
2. What did you like to do on your birthday when you were a child?
Well......I remember when I was in primary school, my parents loved to take me to go
shopping on my birthday. They would buy me whatever gifts I wanted. I remember I have
received new clothes, models of some cartoon characters and so on. After shopping, they
usually took me to KFC to have some fried chicken. The birthday is really fun to me when I
was young.
3. How important are birthdays to you now?
From my point of view, birthdays mark the beginning of a new stage for a person.
Therefore, it is meaningful to do something on this special day with families and friends to
keep good memories. In addition, birthday is a good occasion for me to enjoy some good
time with my families and friends.
4. Which birthdays are most important in your country?
I suppose that people prefer to celebrate their birthday intentionally when their age is the
multiple of ten, for example, they tend to celebrate their tenth, twentieth, thirtieth birthday
Because these are dates that are memorable and they would never forget. It helps us to
remember for how long I have lived in this world and helps us to review our progress and
growth in our life.

4.Technology
1.What types of technology do you use most?
It’s hard to say which is used more often. If I must choose one, I’ll say it is the mobile

back to bed at night. It is the online payment that makes the mobile phone so indispensable.

Yes, of course. Technology brings us a lot of convenience and makes our lives more
colorful. Technology like computers and mobile phones are really indispensable in our daily
life nowadays. I almost use them every day.

I would like to try an electric car, especially those autonomous vehicles. It is one of the
latest human technologies, which can give me a totally different driving experience. With the
price of petrol rising, I am increasingly tempted to buy an electric car.

4.What made you choose the last piece of technology you bought?
The last piece of technology I bought is my laptop. The brand is Lenovo. I bought it
because the appearance is really cool, with a star on its surface. But the most vital reason i
bought it is that its performance is quite fantastic. I can use it to finish my assignment from
the professor. Also, it can meet my entertainment demand like watching a video or playing
computer games.
5.Writing
1.What kinds of things do you write during a typical day?
To be honest, most of the things in life need to be written down like work or study notes
and to-do lists. But as for writing, i would say i rarely actually write an essay unless i were
asked to finish my final term projects or curriculum assignment or something like that.

2.Do you prefer typing or writing things by hand?

I personally prefer handwriting although many people think it is unnecessary. I admit
that it is easier and faster to record on a mobile phone or computer, but for me, the process of
writing down is also a process of thinking. The rustle of the pen on paper makes me feel
more secure, which stimulates my desire to think and write more
3. Did you like writing when you were a child?
Actually yes. I liked to record my feelings in life. I have a diary that I used to write down
how I feel. Sometimes it was my observation of people around me, and most of the time it's
just a little thought that pops into my head.

4.Do you think the kinds of things you write will change in the future?
Of course yes. As I grow up, the environment I live in would change from time to time and
my personality and thoughts would differ from before. Thus, what I write will naturally
change a lot.

6.Geography
1.Did/do you study geography at school?
When I was in my middle school and high school, I always took subjects about geography . i
could still remember that we took geography classes twice a week. The teacher taught us a
lot about all kinds of knowledge like the topography of the world, the flow of the oceans and
so on. I was really into it.
2. Do you enjoy learning about the geography of other countries?
Yeah, definitely. I think geography is one of the most interesting subjects. Through
learning about the climate in different parts of the world and the geographical characteristics
of different countries, I can get a rough idea of what our world is really like. It is also helpful
for my trips overseas in the future.

3. Is there a country you'd like to visit because of its geography?

Let me see.....yes!!!. you know I have been learning from the internet about the difference
between the north and south hemispheres. And things about Australia really attracted me. If i
had a chance, i would like to travel to Australia which is located in the southern hemisphere
to experience the opposite climate to my own country. I think it would be great
4. How good are you at reading maps?
I suppose my ability on reading maps is not bad! You know my father taught me how to
read maps when I was very young and actually I was quite into it.
Also, I traveled to many places with my parents in my childhood. And I would read the map
first before we start. So after years of practising ,I think reading maps is easy

7.Weather
1. How often do you check the weather forecast?
Well i would check the weather forecast almost every day. Every night before I go to bed I
will check it for the next day. It determines what I should wear to work/school the next day
and whether i should bring my umbrella.
2. Do you generally prefer hot weather or cold weather?
I personally prefer cold weather. Because in colder days, i need to wear more clothes to
keep me warm. So it’s actually a good chance to pick and match the clothes. It would be
easier for me to form a great outfit in colder days.
3. Has the weather changed much in recent years in your country?
To be honest, the change is not so apparent. But i have to say, the temperature in summer
becomes higher and higher in my living areas. Maybe this is due to the global warming.
4. Would you like to live in a place that has a very different climate from your country?
To be honest, the weather is an important factor to me when i need to choose a place to
live in. I am currently living in Nantong, which is a city located in the south of the country .
It’s not so hot in summer and also not so cold in winter. If the place is too different from that
in Nantong, like it’s extremely hot or cold, i suppose that place would not be my option

8.Mornings times
1.Do you like getting up early in the morning?
Definitely No!! i’m not an early riser. I usually go to bed late, so If i get up too early, i would
feel dizzy and drowsy in the morning or even the whole day. However, in weekdays, i have
to get up early to catch my morning classes.

Not actually. In most cases, i just go to the breakfast diner to grab a baozi or a Chinese
pie for breakfast.

Not really. On weekdays, i tend to get up early to catch my morning classes. But on

i get up earlier. And in order to keep fit, i choose to do some exercises before breakfast like
running or jogging.

9.Housework and cooking

1.Did you do anything to help at home when you were younger?
Yes, when when i was in my high school, I help clean the house, such as cleaning the table

but I gradually developed this habit because I felt that in my home, everyone takes
responsibility for making the home clean.

Not really, in most cases, it is my parents that do the cooking. I just started learning to cook
earlier this year, so i am not so skillful.

3.Do you like everything to be very tidy at home?

Of course yes! When my home is in a mess, i would easily feel upset, because you know, the
environment plays a vital role in one’s mood. But if the whole house is clean and tidy, i
would feel pleasant
4.Is there a job at home that you really don't enjoy doing?
If i have to say, it would probably be washing the dishes. Since i was 1.83 cm tall,

minutes

myself. It might be a little bit frightening to me at the beginning. But I adapted to it
quite soon. Since then, I've been taking public transportation home by myself
3.Do many people use public transport in your country?
Yes i suppose so. People living in the city would prefer to go to their offices of
schools through the subway or the bus since this is such an economical way to
travel.it usually take us around 2 yuan to take a bus or the subway. By contrast,
driving by oneself is far more expensive
4.Will you use public transport more in the future?

take the bus or the subway. But if i live just nearby the working place. Maybe i would
choose to ride a e-bike or just walk

Yes, I was almost addicted to doing puzzles when I was a kid. I enjoyed the process

place. So actually the whole course of completing the puzzle is quite challenging. Yet
the challenge also brought me a sense of achievement when I finally accomplished the
task
2.Which do you find easier to do: word puzzles or number puzzles?
I personally prefer number puzzles. I take it as a great time killer when I am waiting

task for me, sometimes I might need a dictionary. Given the fact that it’s just a game,
why should I work so hard on that?
3.Would you ever do a puzzle when you're travelling?
I sometimes do the puzzles during my trip to kill the time. On occasions like taking a
flight trip, there isn’t wifi on the plane. Which means i’m totally cut off from the
outside world. But playing with the puzzle will make a boring trip a bit interesting.
4.Do you think doing puzzles is a good way for older people to spend their free
time?
Yes, I definitely agree with that. We all worry about our elderly family members will

first name can ’ t be the same because in China it is not respectful to have the same
first name with their families.

Yes, my Chinese name shows my parents ’ wish and advice to me. The Chinese word
meaning humble in English always reminds me of not being arrogant in any cases,
which has an major influence to my life without any doubt.
3.What name would you choose to give a child?
I reckon that the course of naming a child consists of a wide range of factors,
including historical issues happening recently and a name must suggest personality
and morality. But i haven’t really think about what name to choose. I would rather
discuss it with my future wife.
4.Are some names more popular than others in your country?

which I can talk about with my friends.

2.Did you use social media more in the past?

Not really. When i was in high school, i rarely had time to browse those social media

after i entered the university, i owned my own phone and i have more time to use
social media now.

lollipops, chips, biscuits, and so on. I usually eat a pack of chips on my way back in
school days. I think if you wanna eat snacks, just eat those you love. But if you wanna
keep healthy, you’d better not eat any snacks.
(补充一下,另外一种说法)It is easy to notice that most of the time
we would underestimate the calories of snacks. What’s more, as most
of snacks such as chips and fries contain too much add sugar, sodium

calm down.

Did you use a library more when you were younger?

Well, actually no. I used to study in my bedroom when I got home. Cuz I need to

library in my city was quite far from my home so going to the library was pretty time-
consuming.

some special occasions like final exam or party time, 2 or even 4 am can be still early
right?

Did you stay up late when you were a child?

Not really. I had morning classes from Monday to Friday when I was a child, so I had
to go to bed early in order not to get drowsy the next day. And during weekends, my
parents would still ask me to follow my tough routine. So actually I rarely stay up late
when i was a child.

Do you think it is good to use chocolate as gifts to others?
Well, I suppose that depends, if you are trying to give your girlfriend a gift on

and it is not enough to show your sense of romance. But if you just wanna send gifts
to kids, chocolate might not be a fair choice.
Did you like chocolate when you were a child?
I was a big fan of sugar and candy when I was a kid, I would take all kinds of sweets,
you know, cakes, chocolates, candies, sweetmeats, honey, you name it.

Why do you think chocolate is so popular in many parts of the world?

Well from my point of view, the most powerful reason is about its taste. people just
feel so happy when they have chocolate. You know, children just can’t get rid of
sweet snacks. So wherever there are children, there will be a great sale of chocolate
and other candies.

country music to electrical music. So actually i cannot think any kind of music that i
don’t enjoy very much.
Are there any musicians you would like to see in a live concert?
Oh that must be Jay Chow, whose music career has long been a huge success. He got

Sure, even though I know I am not that type of person, I still envy the life of those
artists. You know, they normally don’t have a fixed working schedule. They can
create while traveling, gaining inspirations from the details of life. That’s fantastic

Would you go to an art gallery if you had some free time?

I love galleries, I love that I can find some really unique artists and their art pieces in

No. Since I’m still a student currently, I cannot afford to buy such expensive things.

well, its quite hard to say, cause the learning atmosphere in universities is really

Well in the past, I didn’t. I basically just went with the flow. But recently I do make

cities nearby to have fun or basically just meet up with friends who haven’t come
back to Nanjing for a long time.

Do you ever work or study at the weekends?

Not really actually. I only bring my car key because I have been using digital door
lock at home for couple years and I have a plan to change my car to a new energy
vehicle which I can enter without a mechanical key.

Do you often forget to take keys with you when you go out?
Well, there was one time that I forgot my new password and I locked myself out
without my phone, and the thing was, I needed to use my phone to check the new
password, that was so dramatic, so I had to wait for like 3 hours for my dad to come
back home and open the door for me.

Have you ever lost any keys? [When?]

Literally yeah, I used to lose my key when I rent an apartment few years ago. Thanks
the locksmith for letting me know how expensive it was to unlock the door.

Do you think it’s a good idea to leave a key to your home with a neighbor?
Ummm, I think that if your neighbor is one of your close friends or your relatives,
then yes, why not, but if you are not that familiar with your neighbor, this might not
be a really good idea.

27.Small businesses
Are there many small businesses where you live?
Yeah, actually I do, I live in a big community, there are grocery stores, barber 's
shops, restaurants near our community, and small businesses here are really
prosperous.
Do you prefer to buy things from a large company or small business?
That depends on the products, if I want to buy sth really pricey, like electronic devices
or household appliances, I would choose big companies or well-known brands, cause
they provide better after-sales customer services but for small stuff, I think it's okay to
buy these things in street markets.

Have you ever worked for a small business?

Actually yeah, I worked as a salesperson during my freshman year, I did this part-time
job for a week to promote a certain type of tea. It was fun, I made 700 yuan from this
job.

Would you like to start your own small business one day?
Absolutely yes, I've been thinking about opening a car wash and hiring a couple of
young employees to work for me, one of my friends wants to be my partner, and
we've talked about this before, but due to the pandemic situation, we haven' t
implemented this plan.

28.The space and the stars

Have you ever learned anything about space and the stars when you were at
school?
Absolutely, I still remember that when I was in primary school, we had science
classes, and basically, we learned some fundamental knowledge about it, and our
science teacher taught us something about outer space and something related to
astronomy. Like, there' s no oxygen or gravity in outer space, stuff like that.

Would you like to find out more about space and the stars?
As for me, I have mixed feeling about it, on the one hand, I wanna know more about
the outer space cause I' m just curious about it, but on the other, i also kinda worry,
cause you know, with all the sci-fi movies and stories, after you get contact with other
planets, it could also mean disasters and catastrophes and stuff.

Do you enjoy watching science-fiction films/movies set in space?

I'm a big fan of Sci-fi movies, cause these kinds of movies like Interstellar can always
inspire me and give me some new ideas about the future, you know, I' m always
curious about the future and how life would be life in 50 years.

Do you want to go into outer space in the future?

Yeah! Definitely! If I’m lucky enough to get a chance to go into outer space, I’ll be on

eye.

To be honest, i rarely do sports after entering the university. We had PE lessons
during freshman and sophomore period. But maybe that’s the only time i did sports.
(lol)

Definitely basketball! When i was in high school, i would rush to the basketball court
as long as I finish my school work. But i broke my leg during a competition, so after
that i became afraid of doing any kind of strenuous sports.
Do you think it's important for children to do sport at school?
Yes, students definitely need more exercise.because first of all, doing more
exercise can improve their fitness level and get them stronger. And do exercise can
also make you more clear-minded. Take myself for example, i often feel like i am
cheered up after sports and my eyes are clearer to see, which makes me better
concentrate on my works. In addition, sports like basketball or football can foster
students ability to cooperate as well as social ability, since the course of the game
involves that kind of ability.

Were any of your school friends very good at sport?

Well yes. I know some of my friends who are very good at playing basketball.
They are members of the school basketball team and they won a lot of prizes in the
CUBA Championship. I really appreciate their perseverance in the daily training.
