Hampered by numerous injuries and bad weather, the 1980
Dedham Marauders finished with a disappointing 2-8 record.
Despite coming up lame early in the season, co-captains Mike
DuBreuil and Peter McGowan led the team through thick and
thin. Outstanding performances were given by seniors Bob
Cochrane, Mike Burns, Bill White, Wade Grier, Dave Brooks,
Jim Lowrie, Mike McGaffigan, Eddie Ellis, Joe Vito, and Steve
Dicks, throughout the length of the year. Although bothered by
overwhelming misfortunes, they played hard, never gave up,
and showed the true Marauder Spirit!

A Fight To The Finish

We started in August,
Watching the sun rise —
We ended in November,
With tears in our eyes.

Sticky-buns was our co-capt. this year,

Playing full to half to wing —
Mellen was the other half,

Constantly ready to sing.

Pansy Pine led the attack,

With our "wetback" close behind —
With our flaming red-haired A.J.,
'Twas the greatest forward line.

Frawls was famous for her chest,

And Demar for her head —
Girls soccer was the best this fall,

No matter what football said.

Hick was fullback #1,

And Brownie #2 —
They kept Wellesley from scoring that day,
By their "yabba-dabba" moves.

Bubio tried the hardest on the team,

And Ellie was MVS —
Beast was so photogenic,
No wonder we were the best!

Freshman and Lauren were new this year,

Along with machine-gun Bell —

Who couldn't wait for practice,
And loved it we could tell.

Injuries struck our team again,

Everyone had at least one — DHS OPP

We had a blast this very long fall,

And owe it to you Mr. Flanagan.

The 1980 Golf Team had a

very difficult season. Due to the

lack of sufficiently experienced

golfers, the team depended
heavily on freshmen and sopho-
mores. The captain was senior
Brian Riley who received Hon-
orable Mention on the Bay State
Conference All Star Golf Team.
The team's MVP was Joe Kor-
naek, who was the most consis-
tent member in scoring and
point accumulation.

Diane Carlin and Gayle Manganello. The team
had bad luck with injuries this year and was
without the high scores of Gayle Manganello,

Karen Scanzio participated and achieved high
scores in floor exercise and vaulting. Diane
Carlin set new records by winning the title of
State Champion for the third consecutive year.

REBOUNDS

This year's varsity Girl's Basketball

team was the culmination of four years
of hard work from the seniors. The
girls presented the school with the 1st

girl's basketball trophy by winning the

St. Clare s Holiday Tournament. They
finished 4th in the league and, for the
first time in 13 years, qualified for the

State Tournament.
The first major highlight was start-
ing the season with a 10 and 6 record.
The second was winning the holiday
tournament, and then defeating Mil-
ton to qualify for the tournament. The
girls made a strong showing in the

tournament game against Norwood.

ALONG
Although they looked weak in November, the team
finished in second place in the league with a 4-1-1
record. The backbone of the team was senior co-
captains Mike Ford and Ed Fleming. Bob O'Brien
was the leader in the I.M. with Dave Dorrwachter
being one of the stronger backstrokers in the league.
Bob Zahka proved to be one of the most versatile
swimmers in the school's history and Bob True was an
intrical part of the team's success.

Despite their long hard practices, the girls were defeated by
Milton 14-10. The team was led by captains Maryann
Lewis, Judy Fay, and Jodi Stivaletta and guided by coaches
Peter McGowan, Jim Lowrie, Mike DuBrieul, and Eddie
Ellis. Touchdown was scored by Lisa Sullivan and safety by
Aileen McCarthy.
Regardless of the loss, the girls played a great game and
were supported by many Dedham fans. That day all the girls
learned one important lesson —
they were no longer girls,
they were football players. The team was scheduled to play
Norwood and Westwood, but both games were cancelled.

bike-a-thon was enjoyed by all despite the freezing weather, flat
tires, and complaining riders. The bike-a-thon was such a success
that we held a second one our senior year on September 21,
1980. This bike-a-thon was even better. It was a beautiful day,
there was a great turnout and all enjoyed the stop at Bubbling
Brook before returning home. The long ride was well worth the
effort. We raised funds for the class and earned reduced prices on

the prom tickets.

YOU GOTTA HAVE
ART

The department has grown substantially over the past

art
2 years, as reflected in the increased involvement of its
students in art related activities both within and without the
high school. One such activity was a field trip to New York
City in March of 1980. Museum tours as well as shopping
along 5th Avenue filled the day with many new experiences
for the students, some of whom now as seniors look forward
to a return trip scheduled for April 10, 1981.
Increased participation by D.H.S. art students in various
competitions including the annual Globe Scholastic Art
Award , in which senior Charles Teti won a gold key,
allowed those with exceptional talent to not only publicly
demonstrate that talent but to receive much deserved recog-
nition for their efforts.

QUINOBIN
SKILL CENTER

The Quinobin Regional Vocational-Technical School offers occupational

education to the young people of Dedham, Milton, Natick and Wellesley.
Students in the district pursue their academic education in the high school of
their home town, and attend the regional school for their specialized occupa-
tional education. Upon completion of the program, each student receives a
vocational certificate in addition to his or her high school diploma. The school
alsoemploys a placement counselor to assist students in finding the "right job",
and in making a smooth transition from school to work.
