Play-off Classics: Laro ng Lahi Competition
Play-off Classics: Laro ng Lahi Competition is a sports
event aiming to engage students in recreation outside academics
and ignite a piece of Filipino culture. More than a celebration of
culture, this event also promotes knowledge of our rich indigenous
heritage and preserves our national pride. Through this event,
participants can showcase their individual prowess while
developing the value of sportsmanship, teamwork, and
camaraderie.
I. GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. This is open to all bona fide members of the Junior Philippine
Institute of Accountants and Auditors — United (JPIAA-U).
2. In the event that a non-member wishes to participate in the
events, an entrance fee amounting to Php 100 must be paid in
order to join. Note that this is not equivalent to the
membership fee paid by the official members of JPIAA-U for
this federation year.
3. The tournament shall be conducted face-to-face on April 06,
2024 (Saturday).
4. The participants shall register on or before March 29, 2024
through the Google Form link provided by the
Officers-in-charge. Note that the registration must be made per
team, and not individually.
5. Change of participants for any of the events shall be allowed
provided that the participants shall update the Officers-in-charge,
Vice President for Non-Academic Affairs, or Assistant Vice
President for Non-Academic Affairs on or before March 31,
2024 (Sunday).
6. Players can create their own teams regardless of whether
they are in the same houses or not.
II. PARTICIPANTS
1. There shall be four (4) teams in the competition.
2. Each team shall consist of a minimum of 12 participants
and a maximum of 15 participants.
3. The event format shall be a single elimination tournament
for each game.

IV. SPECIFIC MECHANICS
A. Pagulong Relay
● Two teams shall play in every round. Each team shall
consist of five (5) members which will be decided before
the start of every round. Changing participants during the
round is strictly prohibited.
● The court shall have two points, the starting line and the
finish line. Each team shall be at the starting line and
members shall line in any particular order.
● Each team shall have one (1) tire and one (1) woodstick
in the game.
● Each member shall hold the tire at the starting line and
start hitting the tire with the wood stick to make it roll
up to the finish line. Upon reaching the finish line, he/she
must run back to the starting line with the tire and wood
stick and pass it to the next player.
● All players are not allowed to push the tire at the starting
line.
● A player must start over the starting line when the tire
falls flat on the ground. Players are not allowed to save
the tire (ex: catching, kicking, and pushing).
● The first team to complete the course wins.
B. Agawan Panyo
● Two teams shall play in every round. Each team shall
consist of ten (10) members which will be decided before
the start of every round. Changing participants during the
round is strictly prohibited.
● The two teams shall have their own base represented by a
parallel line facing the opposing team. Team members
cannot pass through the line unless their number is called.
Those who violate this rule shall have corresponding
deductions.
● Each member of a team is assigned a number by their team
leader. Thus, two players are assigned for a single number,
one for each group.
● The referee shall stand in the middle of the court holding a
handkerchief.
● At a given signal, the referee shall announce a number, and
players assigned to that number shall run towards the
handkerchief, grab it, and take it to their base. The referee
has the authority to call in and out any and multiple numbers
simultaneously.
● The player who holds the handkerchief shall run towards
their designated base to gain a point. However, the opposing
team can tag the player until he/she reaches their base.
● Tagging an opposing player shall only be allowed by the use
of hands. The use of other parts of the body (e.g. feet,
elbows, knees, etc) is strictly prohibited and is not eligible
for points.
● The player must hold the handkerchief when he/she returns
to their base to gain a point. Any form of throwing or
kicking the handkerchief shall be strictly prohibited.
C. Tug of War
● Two teams shall play in every round. Each team shall
consist of five members which will be decided before the
start of every round.
● The distance between teams is three meters. Teams shall
have their own borderline facing each other.
● A handkerchief shall be tied to the rope on the
centerline.
● Upon the signal of the referee, each team shall pull each
other and drag the handkerchief over their borderline.
The team that pulls the handkerchief over the borderline first
is declared the winner.
● Only one successful pull is needed to advance to the next
round.
D. Sack Race
● Four teams shall play simultaneously in this round. Each
team shall consist of ten (10) members which will be
decided before the start of every round. Changing
participants during the round is strictly prohibited.
● One sack is given to each team. Players are not allowed to
remove their shoes during the race.
● The referee shall signal the start of the race. The first
player of each team must only put both feet in the sack after
the referee signals the start of the race.
● Each player shall not be assisted by their team members
in putting their legs in the sack and removing it.
Assisting your team members shall have a corresponding
deduction.
● Each player must put both legs in the sack and hop up to
a marked point, hop around it, and hop back to the starting
line. Then, the next person in line gets into the sack and
repeats the course until every member of the team finishes
the race.
● A chair or a person shall be used as the marked point in
the game. Participants are not allowed to touch or hold onto
the chair during the race, otherwise, a corresponding
deduction shall be given to the particular team.
● The first team to complete the course wins.
V. POINTING SYSTEM
A. Pagulong Race
1. The first team to finish the course will be the winner.
B. Agawang Panyo
1. The first team that successfully drags the center of the rope
to their borderline will win the game.
C. Tug of War
1. The team or team member that successfully brings the
handkerchief to their base without being tagged by the
opposing team shall receive one (1) point.
2. The team or team member that successfully tags an
opposing team member holding the handkerchief shall
receive one (1) point.
3. The first team to gain five (5) points will win the game.
D. Sack Race
1. The first team to finish the course will be the winner.

VII. DEDUCTIONS
A. Pagulong Relay
1. A particular player who pushes the tire with their bare hands
instead of the wood stick at the starting line will start the
course again and cause their team corresponding deductions
of:
A. First offense: 1-point deduction.
B. Second offense: 3-point deduction.
C. Third offense: Team disqualification.
2. A player who starts beyond the starting line will be forced to
start over and have corresponding three (3) point deductions
on their score.
B. Agawang Panyo
1. A player who tries to tag other players using body parts aside
from his/her hands will cause their team a corresponding
deductions of:
A. First offense: 1-point deduction.
B. Second offense: 3-point deduction.
C. Third offense: Team disqualification.
2. A team member who steps outside their base without their
number being called will cause their team a two (2) point
deduction on their score every time a team member performs
this act.
C. Sack Race
1. A player who removes the sack without even reaching their
line will correspond to two (2) points deduction on their score.
2. A player who assists another player in putting his legs and
removing from the sack will correspond to two (2) points
deduction on their score.
VIII. DISQUALIFICATIONS
An automatic disqualification shall be given to any team member
who displays the following behavior:
i. Unsportsmanlike behavior
ii. Profanities
iii. Mocking or a display of aggression towards other
players
iv. Changing of participants during the game without a
valid reason.
v. Not reaching the required number of players.
IX. OVERALL POINTING SYSTEM
In recognition of the outstanding performance of the
winning team in this event, points will be distributed to each
participant for their respective houses as follows:
● 1st place – 100 points
● 2nd place – 75 points
● 3rd place – 50 points
● Participation - 25 points
Points awarded for participation, victories, or achievements
in the events will solely be allocated to official members of
JPIAA-U. The score of a non-member participant in any of the
events under Sports Festival will be voided as they will not
accrue points for their respective houses or teams. This rule
ensures that the scoring system remains consistent and fair,
aligning with the organization's commitment to recognizing the
contributions and dedication of its members.
