Safety Information
To the User of This Manual
The user of this manual is directed to read and carefully review the instructions, warnings and cautions contained herein prior to
beginning installation or service activities. While you may have previously installed or serviced equipment similar to that described in this
manual, changes in design, manufacture or procedure may have occurred which significantly affect the present installation or service.
Installation and Environment
Except for installations requiring certification by the manufacturer per federal standards, see that a radiation protection survey is made
by a qualified expert in accordance with NCRP 102, section 7, as revised or replaced in the future. Perform a survey after every change
in equipment, workload, or operating conditions which might significantly increase the probability of persons receiving more than the
                    maximum permissible dose equivalent.
Diagnostic Imaging Systems - Mechanical-electrical Warning
All of the moveable assemblies and parts of this equipment should be operated with care and routinely inspected in accordance with the
manufacturer’s recommendations contained in the equipment manuals.
Only properly trained and qualified personnel should be permitted access to any internal parts. Live electrical terminals are deadly; be
sure line disconnects are opened and other appropriate precautions are taken before opening access doors, removing enclosure panels,
                  or attaching accessories.
Do not under any circumstances, remove the flexible high tension cables from the x-ray tube housing or high tension generator and/or the
access covers from the generator until the main and auxiliary power supplies have been disconnected. Failure to comply with the above
may result in serious or fatal bodily injuries to the operator or those in the area.
Electrical-grounding Instructions
The equipment must be grounded to an earth ground by a separate conductor. The neutral side of the line is not to be considered the
earth ground. On equipment provided with a line cord, the equipment must be connected to properly grounded, three-pin receptacle. Do
not use a three-to-two pin adapter.
Diagnostic Imaging Systems - Radiation Warning
X-ray and Gamma-rays are dangerous to both operator and others in the vicinity unless established safe exposure procedures are strictly
                  observed.
The useful and scattered beams can produce serious or fatal bodily injuries to any persons in the surrounding area if used by an unskilled
operator. Adequate precautions must always be taken to avoid exposure to the useful beam, as well as to leakage radiation from within
the source housing or to scattered radiation resulting from the passage of radiation through matter.
Those authorized to operate, participate in or supervise the operation of the equipment must be thoroughly familiar and comply
completely with the current established safe exposure factors and procedures described in publications, such as: Subchapter J of Title 21
of the Code of Federal Regulations, "Diagnostic X-ray Systems and Their Major Components", and the national council on radiation
protection (NCRP) no. 102, "Medical X-ray And Gamma-ray Protection For Energies Up To 10 Mev-equipment Design and Use", as
revised or replaced in the future.
Those responsible for planning of x-ray and gamma-ray equipment installations must be thoroughly familiar and comply completely with
NCRP no. 49, "Structural Shielding Design and Evaluation For Medical Of X-rays and Gamma-rays of Energies Up to 10 Mev", as revised
and replaced in the future. Failure to observe these warnings may cause serious or fatal bodily injuries to the operator or those in the
                      area.
Add additional safety information as needed
Only qualified and system trained Philips service staff is allowed to perform service (installation, maintenance, quality assurance) on the
Brilliance CT systems. Make sure that the latest version of the service instructions are available. Read the corresponding instructions

  Installation Notes
1 The K2000 VISA Key (K2D key) and the Service Key determine the level of utilities activation, philips-level or O-
                        level.
2 A new options key is required if this is a new installation or if the feature set for a specific customer site has changed.
3 A backup of the existing version of system software, calibration, and six controllers (Ghost, TDP, MDP, Rhost, DMC,
and Couch) in NVRAM to an EOD should be made before installation or update of Release Brilliance CT Software, in
order to recover the system if the installation fails.
4 Calibrations should be restored even if re-running full calibrations after installation.
5 Unless the identical version of software is being installed on the system (such as would happen after a disk failure),
FULL calibrations must be performed after installing this software. See System Calibration for instructions on
                        performing full calibrations.

Host OS Installation
1 Write down the 25-digit Windows XP product key located on top of the Dell PC. You will use this in a later step.
NOTE The following procedure must be done on the HOST PC, not the CIRS.
2 Unplug the system from the network. This will minimize the chances of getting a virus before the patches are
                        installed.
3 Remove the EOD from the EOD drive. The system may hang during the installation process if an EOD is in the drive.
4 Insert the OS CD into the CD/DVD ROM drive of the Host PC. The label on this CD is: Brilliance_CT_OS_1.2.0.9
                      5 Restart the system:
                         a Click Start > Shutdown.
b On the Shutdown Window, select Restart from the drop-down menu, then click OK.
6 When the Welcome to Philips Medical Systems XP Unattended Install menu appears, press 1 = Begin Installation
to proceed with the installation. This will take approximately 10 min. The system will reboot itself when complete.
NOTE If this menu does not appear on the screen, the BIOS may not be configured properly. See Appendix A
                                   - Instructions to set Host PC BIOS for instructions on configuring the BIOS.
NOTE When the Host restarts after the first reboot, you may see the start screen with a message that says it
is looking for the SCSI device and it timed out. This may happen a few times before the system detects
the SCSI Device. If the system does not find the SCSI device, Power off the Host using the power
button on the PC, wait 10 seconds, then press the button again to power on the Host.
The reason for this is that during a warm reboot, the SCSI device (EOD) may not fully dissipate it’s
charge, and fail to reset. A hard Power Off/Power On should reset the device.
7 When prompted, remove the CD from the drive and restart the computer by pressing <Ctrl><Alt><Delete>. The
system will begin setting up Windows, which will take approximately 17 min.
NOTE The computer may restart several times during this process.
NOTE Do not touch the keyboard or mouse until the Set Computer Name window appears.
NOTE While the Windows Setup Wizard installs files, a Message Box appears asking if you want to restart
your computer for the settings to take effect. DO NOT CLICK ON THIS BOX!
8 When prompted to Set Computer Name, enter the computer name and click OK. If the computer name was recorded
previously in Before Installation then use it.

e Click the Next button. When instructed to, click the Finish button.
f The system will restart automatically.
13 After system restart, click OK when notified that the "Windows XP Installation was completed successfully".

7 When the "Installation completed" message appears at the bottom of the Philips Install Supervisor window, ensure
that all the items are Done, (exit code: 0x00000000). Then click Close on the Philips Install Supervisor window.
                        Also close the Explorer window.

Host Applications Installation
1 Insert the Host Applications CD into the CD/DVD ROM drive of the Host PC.
2 On the Desktop, double-click My Computer. If My Computer does not appear on the Desktop, then click Start > My

                        OK.
6 Adjust the date and time if necessary:
NOTE It is critical that the time is set correctly at this point and not modified after the application CD has
been installed. Under certain conditions, modifying the date and time after the application CD has been
installed will result in the option and service keys being corrupted. The only way to correct this
                                   corruption is a full reinstallation.
7 When the "Installation completed" message appears at the bottom of the Philips Install Supervisor window, scroll
through the Install Supervisor and ensure that all the items are Done, (exit code: 0x00000000). Then click Close in
                        the window.
NOTE If all the items are not "Done, (exit code: 0x00000000)", then go back and reinstall the OS, Model, and
                                   Host Applications software.
8 Remove the CD from the drive.

order to recover the system if the installation fails.
4 Calibrations should be restored even if re-running full calibrations after installation.
5 Unless the identical version of software is being installed on the system (such as would happen after a disk failure),
FULL calibrations must be performed after installing this software. See System Calibration for instructions on
                        performing full calibrations.

Host OS Installation
NOTE The following procedure must be done on the HOST PC, not the CIRS.
1 Write down the 25-digit Windows XP product key located on top of the Dell PC. You will use this in a later step.
2 Unplug the system from the network. This will minimize the chances of getting a virus before the patches are
                        installed.
3 Remove the EOD from the EOD drive. The system may hang during the installation process if an EOD is in the drive.
4 Insert the Host OS CD into the CD/DVD ROM drive of the Host PC. The label on this CD is:
                        Brilliance_CT_OS_1.2.0.9
Please ignore any
messages asking you to reboot. The system will reboot automatically.
NOTE While the Windows Setup Wizard installs files, a Message Box appears asking if you want to restart
your computer for the settings to take effect. DO NOT CLICK ON THIS BOX!

installed will result in the option and service keys being corrupted. The only way to correct this
                                   corruption is a full reinstallation.

Gantry Controller Boards Software Installation
In order to ensure that the latest versions of gantry software are installed, the gantry software must be reloaded
whenever a new application software CD is installed on the Host PC.
The Automation Utilities are available for proprietary use only. Third party is provided with Connect to controller where
the burn process is manual as it was in previous releases. Prior to using these procedures, be sure to open the E-Stop
by pressing the red button on the CT Box. If you forget to do this, it sometimes results in certain boards, predominately
the Couch and/or the DMC, yielding NO RESPONSE. To remedy this, just back out to the menu that says “All
controllers in utility mode”, select this option again, and continue. If the system contains a GMP board, it will respond as
the MDP. The menus will indicate NO RESPONSE from the TDP since the GMP is its replacement.

CIRS OS Installation
  CIRS server hardware
The CIRS hardware consists of three servers and an Ethernet switch in a rack. The CIRS servers are referred to as
CIRS-S1, CIRS-S2, and CIRS-S3. In the rack, CIRS-S1 is located at the bottom, CIRS-S2 is in the middle, and CIRS-
S3 is at the top. CIRS-S2 has a 3DBP board installed. CIRS-S1 has an ACQ16 board installed.
  CIRS operating system installation
The CIRS server software installation is composed of two parts, the operating system install and the CIRS application
install. The operating system install is performed one time, during manufacturing. Manufacturing and Service should
refer to the Service Manual for Reconstruction (CIRS), to setup the system BIOS, install the operating system software
                      or run board diagnostics.
  Monitor, keyboard, mouse
In order to update/install the Operating System on a CIRS server, a monitor, keyboard and mouse must be connected
                      directly to the server.
  Network connection
Make sure the CIRS Ethernet switch is not connected to a hospital or Philips network. This prevents viruses during the
                      installation.

Important! After OS installation using CIRS CD, or if server came directly from Granite Microsystems, each server's
IP address is preset to 192.168.0.250 on one NIC. It is absolutely critical to login to each server (directly
or by Remote Desktop Connections) right after the OS installation of the server has been completed, and
modify each server's IP addresses for both NICs to the appropriate values. Do not wait until after installing
the OS on all three servers, because it would create an IP address conflict since all servers are configured
with the IP address during OS install. Also, make sure that both NICs (data and diagnostic) on each
server have ethernet cables plugged in before attempting to connect to the server remotely. If any of the
servers report an IP address conflict, boot to the service partition, run the System Setup Utility, and check
the LAN configuration to make sure that the correct IP address is assigned the BMC NVRAM of the
server. See Appendix C - Server Setup Instructions - Server Setup Instructions for more information
