Lesson Plan

The document details a lesson plan for teaching students about network cabling. The lesson plan aims to familiarize students with the color configuration of wires in straight-through LAN cables, identify the steps to make a working LAN cable, and have students perform cable crimping. The lesson involves reviewing concepts, introducing new vocabulary, presenting the objectives and topics, and engaging students through activities like a game to arrange cable colors.

Network (LAN) Tester, and Activity sheets

D. Skills: Listening Skills, Analysis and Critical Thinking, Cable splicing

E. Value Integration: Value the importance of good communication between two individuals
resulting to a good relationship through the appreciation of network
cable.

F. Concepts: Networking cables are networking hardware used to connect one

network device to other network devices or to connect two or more
computers to share printers, scanners and other hardware peripherals
and is used in computer networking were cables are linked in order to
share resources, exchange files, or allow electronic communications.

G. Time Allocation 60 minutes

What was our assignment? Yes Ms. Rhea. Ma’am it is about the three types of
network cable in unshielded
twisted pair. And we are to bring
the materials needed in Network
cabling

Very good! And what are these materials? Ma’am the UTP cable, the RJ45,

Thank you.
Did you bring the materials required? Yes ma’am.

Excellent!

We are going to use those materials later in

our activity for today’s lesson.

5. Recall Let us review our past lesson through an

2. It is used to test if your LAN cable is
working.
A. Wire striper The answer is LAN tester.
B. LAN tester
C. RJ45
D. Crimping tool
That is correct.
3. It serves as an indicator in the LAN tester
that the wires are properly inserted and are
working.
The answer is Lights.
A. Beep
B. Lights
C. Numbers
D. Letters
4. Is it okay if we use scissor in removing the
outer jacket of the cables?
YES No, Ma’am!

E. Unlocking of Let me first introduce to you some words that
difficulties will help you to understand the topic.

So, the first word is Network. Please read the Network is a system of
meaning of “Network”, Darlyn computers and other devices that
are connected to each other.
Thank You Darlyn!

The second word is Cable. Please read the Cable is a medium through which

one network device to another.

The third one is the UTP cable. Please read UTP is stands for Unshielded
David. Twisted Pair cable. It is the most
common and generally the best
option for school/office networks.

INTERACTION Today were going to deal with one of the three

types of cable which is the Unshielded twisted
F. Lesson Proper Pair or known as UTP cable.

Mila Rose kindly read. UTP cable is made up of a bundle

of twisted pairs. The twisted pairs
are small 22- or 24- american wire
gauge (awg) sized wires twisted
around each other.

The wires are typically made of copper with

polyethylene (PE) or FEP insulation which is
color coded depending on the application of
the cable being made.

Kindly take a look at you’re UTP cables. (The students will take a look at
their UTP cables).

What color of the UTP cable do you have? Ma’am we have the color is grey.

Thank you!

Ma’am the first type is straight-

Kindly read the three types. B and the last one is the cross-
over cables.

Now, let’s start identifying first the color

configuration for straight-through A or your T-

The colors combinations are WG- G-WO-Bl-

WBl-O-BrW-Br.

Who wants to repeat the reading of color

configuration? Yes, David. Ma’am the color configuration for
straight through A is White Green,
Green, White Orange, Blue, White

Great! You can easily catch up with me. Brown.

Who wants to read the colors for straight

Ma’am the color configurations are

We also have the third one the cross over

Is there any clarifications?

Now we are going to perform how to do the

Steps in Creating a Working Cable.
1. Prepare the needed materials.(Ex.
RJ45, Crimping Tool, LAN Tester and
UTP Cable)
2. Strip the outer jacket of the cable by
at least 2 inches using the wire
stripper.
3. Untwist the twisted pair wires.
4. Arrange the wires of the desired (The students are attentively

5. Cut the wires in 0.5 inch.
6. Slowly insert it to the RJ45.
7. Using the Crimping Tool, lock the
RJ45 to the UTP Cable.
8. Then Check the created cables using
the LAN Tester.
