Powerful Aging – Coaching Lesson

Hi, this is AJ and welcome to the coaching video for this month’s ACC lesson, Advanced Conversation
Club. The topic is powerful aging, a very interesting topic. It’s a passion of mine, an interest of mine,
because, you know what? I’m aging. As are you, as is everybody…as are everybody?...as is everybody.
See, even I make mistakes, I don’t know.

Everybody’s aging. We’re all aging. And we all, whether we realize it or not, have beliefs and ideas
about aging and about what normal aging is. Where do we get these beliefs? Well, we get them from our
society and culture. We get them from the media. We get them from the older people in our lives that we
see, in our families, y’know, how…how did our grandparents age? How have our aunts and uncles ages?
How are our parents aging?

So all these thing, y’know, come into our mind and get formed in our mind. And most of us really don’t
think about this. Certainly when we’re younger we don’t think about it. It’s just these, these beliefs and
this, this vision; these ideas are sort of in there based on our experiences and all these things I just
described. And we don’t really think about them when we’re in our 20s, right? Even most people when
you’re in your 30s.

Most people start to think about it as they get near 40 or after 40. And then each decade after that, of
course, this topic becomes quite an important one. And yet, still, people don’t tend to question their own
idea or belief about what is normal for aging, what should happen as we get older. People tend to have
these sort of ideas and yet they don’t really realize that these ideas are just beliefs.

See the core of all of this, this whole topic, and really most of the topics we discuss in the Advanced
Conversation Club, the core is this…the core reality is this. It is our minds which create reality. And that
is true of our physical health. It is true of our aging as well. It all happens in the mind. It all starts in the
mind. This is where aging happens and how you will age as you get older, whether you will become,
y’know, kind of weak. And you’ll be complaining about your knees. Oh, my knees hurt all the time. And
my, your back, and you’re going to get more and more tired and weak and unhappy and grumpy and
fatigued. And you’re gonna get, y’know, fatter and fatter and fatter…all these things.

If…whether that happens or not, is all dependent on your mind. All of that will happen because of your
mind, not…not… not your body, not your physical…. Because your mind is what will determine how you
eat, what you do, what your beliefs are. And that is what will shape your body as you age. And the same
is true for people who age in a very strong and healthy way.

See, people who believe that aging, normal aging equals getting, y’know, fatter and fatter and fatter every
several years, y’know, keep putting on the pounds, putting on the pounds, or putting on the kilos. And
that it means that you’re supposed…you get tired, more and more tired. That it’s normal if you’re 40 or 50

or 60 to be kind of tired and fatigued more. That it means more pains, joint pains or back pains, or all
these things.

People who believe that that is normal aging, well, that’s exactly what they will get as they age. That’s
exactly what will happen to them as they age. Why will it happen to them? Because their mind will create
that reality. Now, people who believe that as you age it’s normal and right and healthy and not only
possible, but certain, that you will remain strong, you will remain vibrant, that you’ll still have lots of
energy, that you’ll be fully engaged in your life. And, then in fact the second half of your life will be the
best part of your life.

People who believe that get that kind of aging. That’s what happens to them. Again, because their mind
creates that, they believe that and therefore it happens. And all we have to do, we can look at people like
Paul Bragg. Look at people like Fred Bisci. Look at people like Jack LaLanne. Every country, every
culture, every society has examples of people who age like this. Why they age like that? Because they
believe is how you’re supposed to age.

And because they believe it…not just a weak belief, but they have a total certainty in their mind,
emotional and mental, because of that, that’s the reality they create and that’s exactly what happens to
them. When they’re 50, they’re still strong and healthy and energized. Their minds are still clear and
sharp. Same when they’re 60, same when they’re 70, same when they’re 80, etc.

So the mind is the source. The mind is the source. The mind is the source of your success or failure,
whatever that means. The mind is the source of your current level of health. Whatever health you have
right now, it’s all started here. It’s all created here. And what creates it? Number one: beliefs. Right?
What you believe is certain. What you believe is true. What you believe should normally happen. That’s
what tends to happen to you.

Your models, the people that you look to as people you admire or people you believe are, y’know,
respectable, or even just that are close to you and they…they have shown you an example of something.
So let’s just imagine all your life you’re surrounded by people who are poor and they’re constantly failing
at business. They’re constantly failing, failing, failing, everybody fails, fails, fails.

Well, you’re much more likely to fail if everybody you see around you is failing. I mean this is really the
reason why a lot of people would say living, growing up in impoverished, really poor place, even if you
give them, y’know, a great education, whatever that means…if their whole life is nothing but examples of
other people who have terrible beliefs who are failing all the time, who are angry, and violent. Most
people will copy those models that they see in their life and they’ll end up being the same way.

Powerful Aging – Coaching Lesson

Now amazingly, there are some people who will not. They will, despite all of that, they will change their
beliefs and they will get a better life or a different life. And that’s fantastic. And that’s very inspiring for all
of us. It means that we do not have to follow the bad examples in our life.

Another thing though…another way that our mind creates this is…is just through our clear vision of the
future, right? We have a clear idea. We can see in our mind with emotion exactly what we think will
happen, right? Like when I was younger, I actually did think about these things sometimes when I was
younger because I saw some examples in my life of people who were aging in a very bad way.

And especially at not a really old age, I mean people like just in their 40s, and I’ve talked about this before
in other lessons. But, y’know, people who just be like around 40, 41, 42, and they’d like really overweight
and they would be tired. And they would…they wouldn’t have any energy. And they would just say oh
well, I’m getting older. It’s normal.

And I can remember, even in my 20s thinking well that’s just bullshit. That’s wrong. I’m not going to be
that way. And so I had in my mind this clear vision. Okay, when I’m in my 40s, I’m still going to be thin.
And I’m still going to have energy. And I’m going to be still healthy and living my life in a really fun,
dynamic way. And I had this idea that, yeah, the second half of my life will be the best half. The first half
of my life, y’know, I’m kind of struggling and learning. And there are lots of ups and downs, and lots of
problems.

But the second half of my life, I’m going to have all that wisdom and all that experience. And I’m still
going to be strong and healthy. And I’m going to be able to use all of that and really have more freedom,
more abundance, and just a much better life in the second half of my life. And I can really envision that.
And because of that, y’know, now I’m 43. And, y’know, I am…I’m still, I’m still the same weight I was in
high school. I still have, y’know, good energy level. Yes, y’know, I have my bad times, too.

But, y’know, generally I’m living that same vision that I had when I was younger. So vision is very
important. How you see yourself is what creates that reality in the future. And all of this really comes
down to…meaning it all really depends on emotional conviction. There has to be a strong, powerful,
emotional belief about this. It’s not just an intellectual belief, where you say yes, I know that I can be
healthy as I age. There’s got to be emotion in there like yes, I know. And you picture, you can see it in
your mind and you feel great when you imagine it. That’s what creates that reality.

So whatever your age is, whether you’re quite young, you’re in your 20s, or, y’know, you’re older and
you’re in your 70s or 80s or something. It doesn’t matter. You can decide how, first of all, how do you
want to be now and what do you want to be like in 5 years, or 10 years, or 20 years…or whatever your
goal is or whatever your time frame is. And even more important, really imagine through the whole span
of your life what kind of health, what kind of aging do you want to experience?

3
Powerful Aging – Coaching Lesson

It’s very easy to look around and find bad examples that you probably don’t want to repeat. You probably
don’t want to end your last several years in a nursing home, in a bed. Unable to get up, having
somebody take care of everything for you. Feeling depressed and lonely and miserable, that’s a really
bad way to end your life. I don’t want to end up like that. And I imagine you don’t either.

Well, so what do you want? You can start at the end. How would you want to die? What circumstances,
y’know, I would ideally like to be in an outdoor environment and surrounded by friends and family. And
then prior to that, what do you want your life to be like? Well, I want to be active and vibrant and mentally
sharp right up until the end, whatever that age is. Whenever I end my life, I want to…as up to almost the
very end, as much as possible, to be feeling great and be fully and completely alive.

And I can really picture that, y’know. I can picture myself at the age of 60 still running, still, y’know,
having strength, still being really energetic. I can picture myself at the age of 70 still on stage teaching,
y’know, hundreds or thousands of people, and having a great time jumping around and dancing and just
full of energy. I can picture myself, y’know, when I’m 80, still making videos for the Advanced
Conversation Club, still passionate and alive and excited about new ideas, and sharing things with you.

So I can picture…I can not just picture, I can really vividly clearly imagine it with some strong powerful
positive emotion. And that’s how I’ll create that reality.

So here’s what I want you to do. I want you to think about this topic of aging. It’s a topic most people
avoid. Why do they avoid it? Because they actually have a lot of very negative scary beliefs and ideas
and images in their head about aging, about getting older. And because they’re in there, but they don’t
really admit it, they just want to avoid the topic. I don’t want to think about it. I don’t want to think about it.
I don’t want to think about it, because it’s scary. It’s bad.

Well, if you do that, then guess what’s going to happen. You’re going to age badly. You’re going to do
what all those terrible little beliefs and all those terrible scary visions…they’re going to create that reality.
So instead of that, instead of avoiding it, I want you to sit down this month and really think about it.
Whatever your age, I want you to think about from now until the end, what do I want to be like, 10, 20, 30,
40, 50 years…whatever, however long you imagine yourself living.

Imagine that. And choose the kind of aging you want. Decide what you want to be like physically, your
strength, your energy level, your flexibility. Mentally, what do you want to be like? Still learning, still
sharp, still…still interested in new topics, still gaining more and more wisdom. Emotionally, what do you
want to be like? Do you want to be…I’d like to be calmer and wiser. I’d like to be a little more patient
than I am now. I mean, there’s…there’s some things I could see myself improving as I get older.

4
Powerful Aging – Coaching Lesson

So decide this. And then write them all down. Really, write down your whole vision of aging. And then
close your eyes and picture yourself at different ages, y’know, 10 years from now, 20 years from now, 30,
40, 50 years from now. And see yourself in that positive great powerful way. And really develop that
every day then this month. Review that vision that you wrote of aging. How you choose to age, of how
you want to age.

And then if you like you could take another step and you could write down well what do I need to do or
change in my life, now, in order to make this real. Like if you’re eating junk food all the time right now,
and you’re already unhealthy and overweight and having problems, well you might not age so well. So
maybe you need to decide if you want to have this incredible powerful healthy aging, but right now you
realize I’m not so healthy now.

Well, that’s okay, but, y’know, maybe you need to write down…well, I need to stop eating junk food if I’m
going to age this way. I need to start doing some kinds of exercise if I’m going to age this way. I need to
change my job because I’m really stressed out right now. Whatever it is, write that down, too. And then, I
guess the third step would be do those things and commit to them consistently for the rest of your life.

I think this is a really powerful thing. It’s…aging is not something that I avoid, I really like thinking about it
consciously, because I don’t want to age like the average normal America, because they age terribly. So
to avoid that I really want to think about the process. It’s a natural process. It’s nothing to be scared of.
And the more you actually think about it and envision a positive way of aging, the less scare of it you’ll be.

So good luck to you. As always, share your ideas; share your feelings on our social site. And I’ll see you
again next month. Bye-bye.
