Ans. A group of people who travel from place to place in search of fresh pasture for
their animals and have no permanent home are called Nomads.
3. Define Archaeologist.
Ans. People who study human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites
are called archaeologists.
4. What are Artifacts?
Ans. An artifact is an object made or used by humans, particularly prehistoric.
5. How do archaeologists learn about the prehistoric people?
Ans. There are no written books or documents from the Stone Age period, so
archaeologists study artifacts. Artifacts are objects made and used by ancient people.
Through this, archaeologists know about the prehistoric people and their lives.
6. Why is the Catalhoyuk site important?
Ans. Archaeologists found some of the oldest Stone Age buildings in southern Turkey
at the Catalhoyuk site. The remains of houses built and other structures at site are over
10,000 years old. Archaeologists estimated that upto 7,000 people lived at the site. The
structure shows us that some people began to settle in one place establishing town
and cities. It is also one of the earliest Neolithic towns in early times.
7. Write a short note on the Stone Age period.
Ans. The Stone Age is divided into three main periods: Paleolithic, Mesolithic and
Neolithic. Paleolithic period is also known as the Old Stone Age period and it lasted
upto 10,000 BCE. Mesolithic means middle Stone Age and lasted from about 10,000
BCE to about 8,000 BCE. People were still nomadic but used dogs for hunting. The
Neolithic period is referred to as the New Stone Age and lasted from about 8,000 BCE
upto 4,000 BCE. During the Neolithic period, people started to settle in one place and
began farming and raising animals.

   Lascaux Cave Paintings – These are 17,000 years old Stone Age paintings found in
   caves in Lascaux, France. The painting shows figures of animals such as horses,
   deer and auroch (an old type of bull).
   Catalhoyuk, Turkey – 10,000 years old Stone Age buildings. Archaeologists
   estimated that upto 7,000 people lived at the site.
