INTRODUCTION
According to Amanda Hetler, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that uses
natural language processing to create humanlike conversational dialogue. The language model
can respond to questions and compose various written content, including articles, social media
posts, essays, codes and emails. To give a short summary of its history; this was created by
OpenAI in November 2022. Two months later, in January 2023, the program saw immense
growth, garnering 100 million users and becoming the fastest-growing consumer based
application ever.
With that being said, the benefits that AI can give, especially in the sector of education, is
vast. Students from all over the world take advantage of the power AI has, resulting in answering
their materials without the ability to comprehend their lessons. According to a study conducted
by Chung Kwan Lo, ChatGPT passed four separate examinations, resulting in scores eligible to
earn a university degree. This bot has human-like features that make it a threat to education. This
is one of the reasons as to why schools have banned access to ChatGPT on their campuses.
School Heads express their concerns for their students and how their academic performances are
impacted by AI.
However, it is important to consider the other side of the spectrum; ChatGPT's potential
for the improvement of education. According to an article written by Cem Dilmegani, ChatGPT
has the innate potential to become an effective, non-obstructive tool for education. For educators,

the article states benefits such as Content Creation, Grammar and Writing Checks, Grading, and
Designing Syllabus Outlines. For students, it mentions Concept Reinforcement, Research, and
Writing Refinement. These examples go further to show that ChatGPT has both upsides and
downsides.
The researchers believe ChatGPT to be the prime example of a double-edged sword in the
modern world. Clearly, it is a lucrative device for both students and educators, requiring proper
assessment and analysis to bring forth its positive qualities. This paper aims to address the issue
of its prevalence, potential for abuse, and volatility for misconduct; while simultaneously
acknowledging its potency for the enhancement and amelioration of education. It stands by the
belief that it is important to take action and explore the branches of AI, specifically ChatGPT and
its relationships with the sector of Education and Learning.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
With the continuous improvement of ChatGPT, it has developed more features that make it
a danger to education and students’ learning. It causes a student deficiency in the ability to think
critically and enhance their own thinking skills like solving problems, being creative and
presenting their own ideas and opinions.
Research Questions:
1. Have you ever used ChatGPT for your schoolworks?
2. Do you get high grades for the schoolworks in which you use ChatGPT to
answer/submit?
3. Do you think you have improved your learning skills when you use ChatGPT?
Hence, the objectives of this research are the following:
1. To know the positive and negative effects of ChatGPT among Senior High School
Students of San Lorenzo Ruiz College of Ormoc Inc.
- In order to know how this AI impacts the students academic performances, it is necessary
to be aware of the effects and drawbacks. Addressing the effects of AI is required in this

study to mitigate potential harm and execute fair use of AI to avoid abusing its
advantages.
2. To understand how it affects students' learning and is considered a threat to the
academic performances of Senior High School Students of San Lorenzo Ruiz
College of Ormoc Inc.
- Students see ChatGPT as a way to make their academic work easier, such as for
assignments, research, or exam preparation. It is important to know how this can affect
their learning performance in school. This information can guide the development of
guidelines for responsible and beneficial use of ChatGPT.
3. To see if this can be a way to enhance learning processes, skills and improve
students’ self-efficacy.
- ChatGPT is seen as a tool to integrate teaching practices in order to refine students’
education. Knowing this is crucial to establish effective learning and development of the
students’ literacy experience.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
This study was prompted because the researchers witnessed cases and heard counts of
students using Artificial Intelligence—specifically ChatGPT—for assignments, activities, and
even exams; In which consequently, it has become a widely accepted way for students to
“cheese” the school system. In regards to essays, papers, and any written works, a single prompt
into ChatGPT allows students to complete tasks without picking up the essential skills the
educator wanted them to obtain.
The background of this research involves examining the role of ChatGPT in the classroom,
particularly in terms of changing the role of the teacher as the sole educator of students in school.
Rapid and ever-changing technological developments have had a significant impact on
educational systems around the world, such as AI. This study will provide an in-depth analysis of
the potential of ChatGPT rather than the role of teachers in classroom curriculum. This study is
qualitative in nature. The method of data collection involves careful listening and careful
notation of relevant information, which is then used for analytical processes such as data
extraction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Therefore, it is important to know how to
enhance teachers’ competence in technology-based learning by appropriately and effectively
integrating technology, specifically ChatGPT, into learning.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
This study focuses on ChatGPT and its effects on the Senior High School Students of San
Lorenzo Ruiz College of Ormoc Incorporated. With that being said, the researchers will gather
information about the positive impact of AI on the said students, as well as the drawbacks. The
study will be done within the halls of SLRC Senior High School Department. Through this study,
the researchers will be able to know how ChatGPT affects the academic performance of SLRC
Senior High School Students. The researchers have the goal to know if this is a threat or the way
to enhance students’ learning skills and performance in the classroom.
The delimitation of this study includes the availability of the researchers. The time given to
conduct this research is limited, hence the reason as to why the delimitation will also be limited
and will only include information that was obtained within the given time frame.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
This study is anchored on the proposed Interactive AI Engagement Theory (IAIET)
integrates concepts from Media Richness Theory (Daft & Lengel, 1986), Social Presence Theory
(Short, Williams, & Christie, 1976), and Diffusion of Innovations Theory (Rogers, 1962) to
understand ChatGPT.
Media Richness Theory suggests that ChatGPT provides a rich medium for communication
through immediate, personalized responses. Social Presence Theory proposes that ChatGPT can
create a feeling of human-like interaction, enhancing user engagement. Diffusion of Innovations
Theory examines how innovations like ChatGPT are adopted and spread among users,
considering factors like ease of use and compatibility.
This framework hypothesizes that higher perceived media richness and social presence are
linked to increased satisfaction and engagement, while factors like ease of use and compatibility
influence adoption. Quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews will assess these
relationships, providing insights into optimizing AI interactions and understanding user
experiences with ChatGPT.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
There are many factors and variables we have to consider on the topic of ChatGPT and its
effects on students; the pros, the cons, the gray areas which are still subject to research and
debate, the capabilities of ChatGPT, and the actions we have to take if we choose to welcome or
reject its infiltration into the academic community. The researchers have come up with a
conceptual framework that presents our perception on the topic and its key variables.
Dependent Variables for Both: Independent Variables for Both: ● Writing Refinery
● Quality of Information ● Abundance of Information ● Plagiarism and Cheating
● Academic Results and Data ● Other Possible Benefits
● Level of Learning ● Factually Inaccurate ● Other Possible Downsides
Effectiveness Information Other Variables:
● Ethical Considerations ● Learning Improvement ● What is ChatGPT
and Moral Implications ● Dependency on ChatGPT ● Methodology
● Personalized Learning ● Conclusion
● Limited Creativity ● Actions taken after Conclusion
