CHAPTER 1 Safety Precautions

2. Safety Precautions
Be sure to observe the following precautions when operating this equipment:
Precaution Item Description
Surface temperature Since this equipment is made for drying purposes, the surface of the body
reaches high temperatures. In particular, the surface of the hot air piping
and the exhaust filter case reach temperatures exceeding 130°C/266°F
when the dryer runs continuously with the control temperature set to its
maximum (160°C/320°F). Avoid careless proximity with the body when the
equipment is in operation. Even when the equipment must be handled at
emergency, do not touch with bare hands or allow direct contact with skin.
Before performing normal inspection and cleaning, allow the machine to
cool down naturally for at least five hours after stopping operation.
Equipment use This equipment is designed for drying resin pellets. Drying of any other
material will cause machine breakdown or failure. Problems resulting from
use of materials other than resin pellets are not covered by the warranty.
Drying special type materials can only be carried on with resin pellet
material with high moisture and heavy moisture. Nylon materials are not
applicable.
Resin materials generating volatile gases while drying, is easy to adhere
to the dehumidifying rotor (absorbing material), consequently, the
dehumidifying and drying ability will become worse.
Do not use materials containing volatile components and inflammable
materials; otherwise, an explosion or fire may occur. Matsui will absolutely
not take any responsibilities of such accidents.
As for the material that is possible to generate gas during drying, please
refer to “Technical Manual-1”.
Working Environment Use this equipment indoors. Operate this equipment in ambient
temperature from 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F) and humidity from
25%~85%. Depending on the humidity conditions, there is a possibility
that performance may not be fully realized. For the relation between the
humidity and the dry air dew point, please refer to “Technical Manual-2”.
Drying temperature Please set the drying temperature within the maximum operating range as
noted in the specifications. Do not use temperatures exceeding the
maximum operating temperature. Otherwise, failure or an accident will
occur.
Precautions during Do not open the machine parts, such as cylindrical part of the drying
hopper, cleaning door, or material drain ports while the machine is
operation
operating, because resin or hot air will blow out. It is extremely dangerous.
Opening and closing of Please open and close the cleaning door after confirming that there is no
material inside from the level window.

Overheat protection This equipment has a safety device (overheat protector) as a standard
safety feature. When the safety device is operating, the operation power is
device
cut off, and the heaters and blowers stop. At that moment, the heater
elements would become quite high in temperature. Only after complete
cooling down of the heaters, should a restart be attempted. Please pay full
attention to existing temperatures in order to avoid the overheat sensors to
trigger again.
For details, please refer to “Chapter 4. Preparation for Operation”.

CHAPTER 2.Equipment Explanation

1. Explanation of the equipment

This equipment is used for drying resin pellets / particles.
This unit creates super-dry air (with absorbent) to remove moisture in the
airstream.
Then, it sends the dry air into the hopper (where the resin is) after the air
has been heated up to the prescribed temperature.
As moisture in the surrounding air has been removed with an absorbent,
stable conditions for dryness can be obtained.
Because of the extremely low dew point, and little moisture in the air, any
moisture can be evaporated very quickly.
As the unit recycles the exhaust from the drying hopper to supply dry air,
and because the exhaust air is not discharged out of the unit, there will
be no strong odors or hot-air emitted, which aids in very low power
consumption.
This machine has the intelligent drying ability to automatically decrease
or increase air-speed and heater outputs to optimum levels;
consequently realizing the optimal use of electric energy. ( )

Refers to:
The general names for commodities that have been developed by Matsui, featuring automatic
controls, and intelligent capacity modes.

For models equipped with , customers’ operation is monitored and controlled in “real-time”,
and automatically adjusts to a running mode for optimizing energy, and resource saving.

It shall control accordingly for different operating modes, such as full-load production, short-run /
limited production, or production that is temporarily idle / stopped. When compared with previous
models, it saves both energy and resources, to a larger extent.

5. Temperature set-up of the Overheat Protector

For safety, this unit has an overheat protector, that serves as a safety device for the drying
and regeneration heater tanks, as standard equipment. If the sensor (temperature detector)
reaches a temperature higher than the temperature setting of the overheat protection
device, the power supply to the heater is cut off. In this situation, heaters and blowers
(drying, regenerating, and conveyance) also stop. The overheat protector device is
installed in the electrical control box to regulate the overheat set-temperature.

Step Operating Content

1 Set the temperature setting of the overheat protector to a value about
20°C/36°F above the set drying temperature (SV temperature setting). For standard
specifications, please use the temperature setting of the overheat protector under
180°C/356°F
Drying temperature

overheat protector

Setting temperature
Dry temperature +20°C(36°F)
[ Mark ]
The temperature controller has upper and low limit alarm settings. When the upper
limit alarm occurs, it turns the heaters OFF, and after the cooling timer has elapsed,
the blowers turn OFF, and operation stops.
(Both the upper and low limits are set to 10°C/18°F at the factory before shipping.)

2 When the sensor bulb is heated beyond the set-temperature on the overheat
protector dial, the operational power is cut off, the heaters & blowers stop. The touch
screen of the display panel shows a red emergency alarm, and the buzzer sounds.
After cooling the heated parts sufficiently, identifying the cause and fixing the issue,
you can restart the unit.(Please refer to Chapter 5.Operating Procedures).
If the sensed temperature is still above the set temperature, the operating power
supply shall not be energized even when the preparation switch is pressed.

NOTE
When a safety device is working, it takes about 1 to 2 hours to cool down the heated part.
If the dryer is restarted before the heater has finished cooling, residual heat may cause the
overheat protector to trip again. Take sufficient care regarding the temperature setting when
attempting to re-start.

6. Jet Clone Operation

Start up the feed convey to the drying hopper, set up the timer for discharge, and the timer for the
blower to start operation. When the blower starts operating, the flapper will close.

Material will be conveyed into the Jet clone according to the Feed / Blow timer.

The blower will stop when the Feed / Blow timer elapses.

When the vacuum pressure is gone, the flapper on the Jet clone opens, and material will be
discharged into the drying hopper below, during the discharge timer setting.

The above steps are repeated.

When the drying hopper is full, the unit stops conveying, according to the “full signal” at the limit
switch, installed on the Jet clone.

After that, even though the material level decreases and the limit switch gives the demand signal,
the blower will not start until the secondary conveying is completely finished, so the next loading
cycle may be (slightly) delayed.

1. Influence of gases, produced by heated resin

Some resins, when heated, produce a gas into the drying system.

This machine sometimes can not function normally with influence of gases that occurs from
the resin.
For the resins that have this possibility, a counter-measure to suppress the influence of gas is
necessary.
There are one-pass methods and methods of installing the gas gathering unit etc. in
compatible method. However, the method must be chosen according to different materials.

Also, there is not yet a total known counter-measure plan to cover all resin types. Therefore,
regular maintenance of this machine and replacement of the consumable parts and
components are necessary depending on the various resins used.

If any situation below occurs during operation, please contact us, because the unit may be
affected by the influence from gases.

1) A liquid, oily substance oozes from the filter box, the hose ports, or the drying hopper.
2) There is a change of color inside of the filter box, or, oil substances.
3) Thin smoke occurs from the regeneration exhaust port.
4) Oil appears inside the whole unit.
5) Oil appears on the floor.

As for the resins that may involve the influence of gas, please refer to the list on next page.

●Considering the influence brought about by gas, the following table lists the resins that this machine
may need to take preventive measures. (Resin with ○ marked in corresponding columns indicates
that machine needs to take gas preventive measure. Resin with × mark says no measure is needed,
however, possible measures may be taken according to the kind of substances mixed.)
