Introduction
Hello! Here I’ll show you how to crochet a Carnation flower - one of the most meaning-
ful and loved flowers not only around the world, but throughout history as well. Carnation
played a major role as a decor blossom in the ancient Greek and Roman times, and is pos-
sibly the flower carrying the greatest significance in Christianity.
Carnation express Love and fascination, and different colors carry more meanings - dark
red Carnations convey deep love and affection, light red conveys admiration while white
carnations suggest pure love and good luck and, of course, the pink Carnation which sym-
bolizes Mother’s Love.
Carnations are a popular Mother’s Day gift, are the January birth month flower and the 1st
Wedding Anniversary flower.

Crocheting the Inner Strip (#4)
I included here more photos of strip petals, all with different edges - you don’t need to
make all petals different, as this strip is going to be rolled an be part of the middle part of
the Corolla. It won’t be easy to spot even if all petals have the same jagged edge - the impor-
tant is that the edges are not smooth.
Crocheting several different edges makes the blossom look more interesting and natural, in
my opinion.

Making the Calyx
We achieve the unique shape of the Calyx in
3 stages :
1 - Crochet the calyx Elements.
The Calyx will be made of 5 elements.
2 - Attach the Calyx Elements.
Once the elements have been crocheted,
we’ll crochet and sew them together.
3 - Crochet the tips of the Calyx.
Lastly, we’ll crochet the tips of the Calyx. Step 1 - Similar to the Petals, We’ll start with a base

connect them together. First, we’ll bring two
elements together, with their fronts in front
of each other (front is the curved inwards
face), and crochet their edges together -
working between the posts of both elements
(see photos).
Once all elements have been crocheted
together, we’ll close the Calyx by sewing the
edges.

Making the Calyx (#4) - Finishing
Now, that all the Calyx elements are fin-
ished, we’ll close the Calyx by sewing both
ends together.
To keep a conical shape of the Calyx, and
make seem more smooth, we work the nee-
dle in parallel to the faces (see steps 23 and
24).
Once we finish sewing the Calyx, do not cut
the wires or thread, we’ll need them to fix
the Calyx to the stem. Step 22 - Bring both ends together.
Step 23 - Work the needle in parallel to the faces. Step 24 - One side at a time.
Step 25 - Finish at the bottom of the Calyx. Step 26 - Finish by tightening the thread. Do not

Bringing everything together
Before we bring everything together, we first
need to prepare all the elements for assem-
bly.
We’ll start by preparing the petals, followed
by the sepals and leaves.
First and foremost, it is recommended to
starch and iron all elements.
Step 1 - Take a single petal and fold it in half.
Step 2 - Next, tightly fold it to a thing element. Step 3 - Hold that element tightly between your
fingers.
Step 4 -With your other hand, squeeze and twist the
element, until --- Step 5 - It looks like this.

the stem, and then adding the petals one by

layers of 7 petals each.
Next, we’ll add the Calyx, 4 Sepals and fi-
nally the 4 Leaves.
