NOTES:
1. Electrodes to be NIPPON KAIJI KYOKAI (NKK) approved type or equal.
2. Welding consumables are to be stored and controlled appropriately, and to be dried tolerably if necessary.
3. Surfaces of all part to be welded shall be free from any harmful imperfection (dirty, wet/moistures, rust, scale,
grease and others).
4. The surfaces and boundaries of each run of deposit shall be thoroughly clean and freed from slag before the
next run is applied.
5. All welds throughout are to be sound, uniform and substantially free from slag inclusion, porosity undercut
and other defects.
6. Tack weld shall be kept to a minimum.
7. Jigs used for positioning/alignment of welding joints are to be so fitted as not to give excessive restraint. Any
damages on the base metal caused by the removal of jigs is to be repaired properly by welding, grinding
and other methods.
8. All welding is to be complied with class requirements and surveyor’s satisfaction.
9. When welding is to be deposited from one side only. Using ordinary welding techniques backing is to be
provided and the plates are to be beveled to an included angle of 45˚ and spaced so as to be leaved a gap
at the root of 3mm.
10. All welding in way of structural end connections to be continuous.
11. Where stiffeners (angle bar/flat bar) pass through slotted girders/stringers. There is to be a pair of matched
intermittent welds of each side of each intersection extending over 150mm and are to be efficiently attached
to the girders.
12. The use of backing bars in highly stressed weld is to be avoided.
13. The welding activities is to be carried under the conditions of protection against moisture, wind and snow.
