Dear Sirs,

With reference to earlier discussions, our engineer Mr Manitskis visit, sent over
documentation and information.

We are pleased to notice the shown interest for the Lidan brake servo system.
After evaluation and analyze we are ready to propose a modification system for the BOMCO
JC50D drawworks brake system.
The modification is designed in order to meet the requirements in the API standards as well
as be easy adoptable and operational by the rig crew.

Enclosed is our quotation for manufacturing and delivery of modification kit of the drawworks
brake system with possibility to add on auto driller and block control system.

1.0 Quotation.

Set of delivery: put into one basic rebuild package and three different add on levels.

Brake Servo Control rebuild package, (basic package) for manual brake operation.

Consist of. - 2 pc Mounting frames to fit 4 calipers on each side of DW


- Control panel with electrical joystick, dead man’s hand function
(cabin installation)

2.0 Description

LIDAN Brake Control and Automated Drilling Systems

2.1 Introduction

Lidan Engineering, having a vast experience of brake control and automated


systems for drawworks, installed land- and offshore drilling rigs, offers the rig
owners full range of brake control systems for SCR powered drawworks:

All brake systems are designed and manufactured according to DNV lifting
appliance and API regulation standards.
Which means that necessary safety factors, double safety systems and
operational requirements has been taken into consideration during the design.
A certificate that states that API regulations have been followed will be
submitted to the delivery.

2.2 Brake assembly

The brake system consist of 4 callipers on each side of the drum, total 8 nos.
Four of them are passive with spring engage for parking and emergency.
Four of them are active, used to control the braking proportionally, manual or
automatically.

This quotation do not includes new passive callipers for the safety purpose.
New beams with possibility to mount four callipers on each side of the
drawworks drum are included.

2 passive callipers on each side (total 4) is calculated to hold the full load of the
drawwork with safety factor according to API regulations.
Shlumberger to arrange for the additional two callipers from the original
manufacturer.

2.3 Control panel

Normal operation of the brake is by the handle in the control console and
buttons on the console or a touch screen depending on configuration.

Seen below is one possible configuration of the system consoles, common is


the manual handle for manual control of the brake.
ADS and BCS system in its basic design may be controlled with buttons, if
more functions are added touch screen control may be necessary.

The function of the controls in the panel.

Joystick Electrical Joystick for proportional operation of the band brake


force in the same manner as the original hydraulic joystick. The
joystick is of dead man’s hand type with full brake on when
joystick is in upright position. The handle button is used to
activate the joystick in order not to open the brake by mistake.

Emergency stop Switch off the control valves for the passive disc brake.
The emergency stop is a hardwired, doubled system to make
sure that full brake is applied.

Key switch Brake When switching the key to off position the system will engage
the passive brake and not allow for any operation.

Key switch
Blockcontrol To be used to switch off or change setting of the block control
system.

ROP knob. When the auto driller is engaged, the system starts to feed off
with the speed set by the knob on the control console; it is
possible to adjust the speed for drilling up to about 90 m/h. The
WOB, Torque and delta P is then when activated interfacing the
feed off in order to maintain steady figures.

2.4 Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU)

The Hydraulic Power Unit is modified with necessary valves mounted on a new
valve panel. The panel includes two valves for control of the passive spring
brake. Both these valves needs, for safety, to be activated for the brake to
open. A main valve with integrated pressure control for the active brake system.
All pressures are monitored by pressure sensors (doubled on critical pressure)
and surveillance by the PLC for automatic spring brake on in case of failure.

2.5 Electrical system

The electrical system is a PLC based system based on Siemens S7 which is a


well known robust system and allow for remote (Internet) monitoring and
software change. The system is designed to be mounted in Zone 2.

The power supply to the electrical system is backed up by a UPS which allow
the system to be operational even during short power change over etc.
Note. The power to the pump is not through the system which means that the
operation of the hydraulic in such case is limited by the capacity of the
accumulators.

2.6 Autodriller system

Connected to the drum shaft is a rotation encoder. This encoder is connected to


the PLC system which when ROP is selected operate a regulated circuit with
the active disc brake control.
During the process the system always monitors the function and if over speed is
noticed the passive spring brake will be switched on.

From the Brake Servo control console, the feed off is controlled by a knob
where the speed for the feed off can be set up to 90 m/h with a 10 string block.

When the system has an activated function (WOB, Torque, Delta P) with a set
value, it will electronically calculate and command, interrupt, the Feed Off
control for best drilling performance.

The WOB, Torque and delta P control uses electric analogue signals from the
block weight indicator, top drive or the mud system to control the desired
values.

During the control the system will automatically reduce the feed off, calculated
from the actual values, and keep the values close to the set targets. If more
than one target is activated, the system will balance on the first reached.

The procedure of operation is natural:

Lock the servo brake lever in braked position


Switch on “Autodrill” mode by first press AD activate and then pressing the ROP
button
Increase the Feed Off control up to the maximum requested feed off (if not
already set).
Set and activates the drilling parameter requested and the system will keep
these values.

If the lock on the brake joystick is lifted out of its position the system will
automatically and quick without any other operating steps return to manual
operation. The function is the same as pushing the Feed off “Off”.

2.7 Display and setup.

The system may be delivered with different size of screens from 6” up to 15”
The common size is a 10” screen mounted inside a stainless steel cabinet.
All screens delivered are of sun readable type with extra high contrast.

The display layout will depend on the chosen configuration, below is an


example with ADS and BCS system on a 6,5” screen

The screen layout consist of five different areas

At the top all actual alarm and status will be shown, the alarm text will be red as
long as the alarm is active and after reset turn pink. The alarm will disappear
from the top when no longer active and alarm reset has been pressed.
Actual status may be shown as well.

Bottom left are the buttons for start, stop, HPU reset and autodriller activate
control located.
When operating in Autodrill mode, the main screen area will change in order to
adjust and monitor the autodrill parameters.

The area above the control buttons are indicators for pressure, speed and load.
for the driller to know that the pressure in the brake is ok and with full power.

The right side indicates the position of the block.


Distance to different stop positions will be shown when actual. When a function
is not in use it will be red and indicating that the position is not set.

Distance to drill stop will only be shown grey when autodrill is engaged.

The analogous position scale shows the block position with top set position as
the top of the scale and the floor set position as the bottom of the scale.

On the bottom right side there is Alarm reset and jump to setup page.
On these pages alarm history is available together with al system parameters
which may be changed. Normally some of the sub pages are password
protected.
