14. Letters: Request , Permission, Complaint, Claim, Adjustment and Sales


Below are some sample questions:
a. A computer institute in Bangalore has advertised a special vacation training
program in Advanced Animation for engineering students which you wish to
attend. Draft a letter of inquiry requesting details of the program including
accommodation facilities available for outstation students.

b. You have just completed your first year in engineering and are looking for a
summer internship with L&T Constructions. Write an e-mail to the HR Head
requesting them for an opportunity to intern with the company.

c. As a Sales Director of Fitness Plus Centre, Bangalore, draft a sales letter to Business
professionals selling them your Three-Wellness packages:
i. The 3-day Fitness weekend
ii. The 7-day Total Fitness Programm3
iii. The Individualized corporate well-being program.

d. As the Sports Secretary of your college you had placed order for sports equipment with
‘Archer Enterprises’. On receiving the material, you found many faulty equipment in the
order delivered. Write a letter of complaint to the Manager asking for appropriate
compensation.

e. Write a letter to all the principals of higher secondary schools in Mumbai to
promote the sale of a new television set your company has manufactured. Point out
the facilities it has and also its educational value.

f. As a public relation officer of BEST, you have received a letter from a commuter
complaining about the rude behaviour of one of the bus conductors. Write a reply
to this complaint.

g. You are the Sales Manager of Lal General and Electrical Stores, Daryaganj, Delhi
-110006. You have received an angry letter from one of your customers about the
defects in an electric toaster he bought from your Store a week ago. Draft a suitable
reply.

h. You purchased an expensive shirt manufactured by a reputed company from a retail


shop. After one wear the colour faded and material shrunk. The retailer has asked
you to write to the manufactures for a replacement. Write a letter of complaint.

i. You have received an order for hundred benches from a school. Due to some
problems you will be able to dispatch only 60 now. Draft a reply to the school
authorities explaining the situation and requesting extension of time to deliver the
remaining 40 benches.
