For over four decades, Thomso has been the heartbeat of IIT Roorkee and the pride of North
India—a vibrant legacy that defies the ordinary. It has grown exponentially, weaving dreams
and melodies into its very fabric. It’s reach is truly remarkable—so much so that in 2005, the
Government of Uttarakhand officially recognized it as the “Annual Cultural Festival of
Uttarakhand.” It serves as an unparalleled platform for emerging artists nationwide, setting a
vibrant atmosphere that leaves spectators in awe.

Thomso has become an indelible thread woven into the fabric of

IIT Roorkee’s legacy, and it fills me with immense pride and joy.

Celebrated for decades as one of the country's premier festivals, it

is truly awe-inspiring. The vibrant buzz across the campus during

the Thomso weekend is a testament to its significance and the joy

it brings to participants.


Cultural and technical activities are integral to a student's life,

playing a crucial role in personality development and shaping

perspectives towards society. At IIT Roorkee, we nurture minds to

globe, crafting a three-day utopia.


At its core, this theme embraces the convergence of diverse cultural traditions.
It goes beyond mere blending; it harmonizes heritage and progress. Picture
traditional dances set to contemporary beats or ancient dishes revitalized with
global ingredients. "Crossroad of Cultures" bridges generations, inviting elders
to share their stories while Gen Z discovers their roots.


So, let's raise our glasses filled with chai, sake, or kombucha to "Crossroad of
Cultures". May it continue enriching our lives, expanding our horizons, and

The grand inauguration of
Thomso'23 at the historic
Convocation Hall reverberated
with the poetic lyrics as a riveting
Kavi Sammelan was organized in
collaboration with the Hindi Cell,
IIT Roorkee. The highly
acclaimed Padmashree awardee
Ashok Chakradhar joined hands
with a plethora of other
illustriously famous poets whose
rhymes echoed off the sanctified
halls and spoke of love, longing
and life. Lines of a living tradition
moved professors, students and
all who cared about the rich
tapestry of human expression and
cul ture.

Every year, at Thomso's pronites, attendees witness a lineup

featuring iconic Bollywood artists from yesteryears to contemporary
rappers and DJs, offering a delightful array of diverse musical
experiences.

The campus filled with a vibrant blend of modern pop and traditional Bollywood
Indian music as Jonita Gandhi graced the stage. Her famous Bollywood hits like “ The
Break-up Song” and “Allah Duhai Hai” had ever y attendee singing along as soon as
the intro music played.

The night continued with the renowned DJ duo "Lost Stories", who energized the
crowd with their original tracks “OK Not To Be OK” and “Heer Ranjha”, ensuring the
atmosphere was electric and perfect for another round of dancing.

Ritviz, a singer-songwriter and music producer, took to the stage, and the audience
danced and vibed throughout the night with every ounce of their energy. The crowd,
eagerly anticipating his songs like “Udd Gaye” and “Liggi” all day, felt thoroughly
fulfilled.

Armaan’s captivating voice paired with Amaal’s mesmerizing music deeply stirred the
audience. Throughout the event, emotions ran high as tears were shed, each lyric and
note of songs like “Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon” and “Pehla Pehla Pyar” resonating
profoundly with everyone present. The atmosphere was electric, with each
performance etching lasting memories in the hearts of the audience.
