1. General
     A. Leveling
A leveling point is provided for leveling the aircraft laterally and longitudinally, as required
         for specific maintenance tasks.
Aircraft leveling is obtained by aligning a plumb bob, suspended from a hanger, with a
target located on the front emergency exit door sill. Access to both the hanger and target
is gained by removing the emergency exit door (refer to Chapter 8−20−00).
     B. Weighing
Aircraft weighing can be done using platform scales or electronic sensing devices at the
landing gear to measure the weight at each gear location. the weights are recorded to
calculate the total weight and center of gravity (refer to Chapter 8−10−00).

                                   WEIGHING OF THE AIRCRAFT
1. General
The maintenance procedure in this section is for weighing the aircraft. Platform scales or
electronic sensing devices can be used at the landing gear to measure the weight at each
gear location. The weights are recorded to calculate the total weight and the center of gravity.
The basic weight of the aircraft is that weight which includes all fixed operating equipment
both standard and optional, trapped and unusable fuel and full oil.
2. Weighing of the aircraft

Using plumb bob mark floor on centerline of airplane to determine location of
points ‘X’ and ‘Z’ (see sheets 3 and 4) and establish measuring datum at point ‘Y’.
        Horizontal datum to nose reaction location = F = 423 − A.
        Horizontal datum to main reaction location = E = 423 + B.

                                  LEVELING OF THE AIRCRAFT
1. General
The maintenance procedure that follows is for leveling the aircraft. The aircraft can be leveled
by jacking the aircraft at the wing and fuselage nose and adjusting the jacks or by jacking at
the landing gear axles and adjusting the jacks or by reducing the tire pressures and/or the
oleo shock struts. A leveling target plate is located at the forward right emergency door
opening and provides for leveling the aircraft laterally and longitudinally.
2. Leveling of the Aircraft
     Refer to Figure 1.
     Equipment and Materials:
Plumb bob
Aircraft leveling kit
Tail stand
     A. Prepare the Aircraft for Leveling
          (1) Remove the forward right emergency exit door from the aircraft.
          (2) Suspend plumb bob from hanger at front emergency exit.
          (3) Make sure that the panel located at the upper emergency exit door opening does
not make contact with the plumb bob line at station X255.00.
          (4) Permit the point of the plumb bob to hang above the target plate not more than 0.5
              inches (1.27 cm).
     B. Level the Aircraft on Wheel Axle Jacks
CAUTION: WHEN THE AIRCRAFT IS ON JACKS MAKE SURE THAT THE TAIL
STAND IS REMOVED BEFORE THE MAIN OR NOSE JACKS ARE
ADJUSTED. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE
                         TO THE AIRCRAFT TAIL SECTION.
          (1) Place the nose and main wheel axle jacks in position and jack the aircraft until the
wheels are approximately 2 inches (5.08 cm) off the ground.
          (2) Adjust the jacks at the main wheel axles until the plumb bob point aligns with lateral
mark on the target plate at station Y42.500.
          (3) Adjust the jacks at the nose wheel axle until the plumb bob point aligns with
longitudinal mark on the target plate at station X255.00.
          (4) The aircraft is level when the point of the plumb bob (3) aligns with the center mark
at stations Y42.500 and X255.00 on the target plate.
          (5) Position tail stand aft.
     C. Level the Aircraft by Adjusting the Shock Strut Extension
          (1) Adjust the main landing gear shock strut extension to move the plumb bob left or
right of the target plate until the plumb bob is above the target plate mark at station
              Y42.50
          (2) Adjust the nose landing gear shock strut extension to move the plumb bob forward
and aft of the target plate until the plumb bob is above the target plate mark at
              station X255.00.

stations Y42.500 and X255.00 on the target plate.
        (4) Position tail stand aft.
   D. Level the Aircraft by Adjusting the Tire Pressures
        (1) Adjust the main landing gear tire pressures to move the plumb bob left or right of
the target plate (4) until the plumb bob is above the target plate mark at station
            Y42.50.
        (2) Adjust the nose landing gear tire pressures to move the plumb bob forward and aft
until the plumb bob is above the target plate mark at station X255.00.
        (3) The aircraft is level when the point of the plumb bob aligns with the center mark at
